The Opportunity
Are you a #Geologist with oil and gas experience in unconventional and operations geology? Interested in working on a greenfield development and having a direct impact on both the area and the business?
We are #hiring a Geologist to work out of our #Calgary head office. If you have excellent interpersonal skills and are motivated to be a key member of a rapid growth area of our business, we want to hear from you!
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide geologic expertise for the identification and evaluation of both development potential on Vermilion lands, as well as merger and acquisition growth opportunities inside the core area.
Within the Mica area in context with the Montney sub-basin, you will increase our detailed understanding of the geology.
You will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.
What you will do
Characterize area geology with detailed maps, cross sections, and reports using petrophysical well logs, well tests, core and cuttings analyses, seismic data, drilling and production history, and competitor analysis
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to optimize well placement, refine type curve areas, and identify sweet spots to maximize play economics
Generate prospects and locations for drilling and reserve additions and advance inventory to drill ready locations through internal / external approval processes
Provide geological input to the team for field development planning, year-end reserve bookings, and assessment of suspension and abandonment candidates
Manage geological operations for drilling programs
Identify value add opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to maximize value to Vermilion through evaluation of land sales, expiries, acquisitions, divestitures, farm in / out agreements, swaps, etc.
Communicate technical analysis and results to management, industry partners, and government agencies
What you will bring
5 or more years of unconventional and operations geology experience in the oil and gas industry; strong preference for Montney experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology and registered as a Professional Geologist with APEGA
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
Experience working with GeoScout, Accumap, or related mapping software
Demonstrated experience in gathering, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets
