Senior Data Risk Consultant (Data Governance & Taxonomy)

Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening for an IT Project Manager who is fluent in French or Spanish to place at our client, a Big 5 bank.

Client : Big 5 Bank

Location : Downtown Toronto. Thursday in office and every 4th Friday

Duration of Contract / Perm : 6-month contract converting to full-time

Hours / week : 37.5 hrs

Start date : Early July 2024

Role in Sentence : We are seeking a Senior Data Risk Consultant to join the Governance Adherence and Oversight team. You will play a critical role in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating data risks across the organization.

Must-have requirements :

  • Strong understanding of Governance and taxonomy
  • Experience with records management (be the bridge between the data risk and records team for escalations)
  • Strong experience managing large enterprise datasets
  • Understanding of the full data lifecycle management
  • Has lead a team before as they will have 2 direct reports

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Data Risk Consultant to join our clients team. You will play a critical role in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating data risks across the organization.

Your responsibilities will encompass data governance, risk assessment, reporting, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of the enterprise’s Data & Records Management program.

Responsibilities

Data Governance and Risk Management :

  • Develop, implement, and maintain enhancements to the Data & Records Management program's governance framework.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for data & records risk assessments.
  • Monitor adherence to data policies and standards, ensuring data quality and availability.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and review of data & records management policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with teams to define, communicate, and prioritize data and records-related business requirements for information protection.
  • Work with functional experts across various departments (Risk, Compliance, Technology, etc.) to integrate data & records management considerations into the risk management framework.

Data Analysis and Reporting :

  • Collect, organize, and analyze risk data assessments to create reports and dashboards that provide insights into business performance and risk metrics.
  • Design and develop reports and visualizations using tools like SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or other BI software.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to answer specific business questions and address data quality issues.
  • Interpret data findings and translate them into actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Present findings and reports to stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.

Project Management and Collaboration :

  • Support strategic and enterprise-wide Data & Records Management initiatives.
  • Manage assigned initiatives within your area of responsibility, ensuring effective implementation.
  • Participate in project meetings, interacting and collaborating with team members and other departments.
  • Provide consultative advice and guidance to Senior Records Officers, Data Stewards, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality and data protection standards across the organization.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Management, Data Management, Business Administration) preferred.
  • 4-6 years of experience in data governance, data analysis, or information management.
  • Experience in supporting enterprise-wide data governance programs is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of data management best practices and data lifecycle management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in collaborating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
