Duties and responsibilities
- Manages the Tax Risk Management process (risk register) (i.e., identify, assess, monitor, and manage tax-related risk effectively).
- Monitor ever-evolving tax rules across diverse tax jurisdictions and advise on strategic planning.
- Is the subject-matter expert for shipping tax regimes applicable to CSL’s operations in the UK, Norway, The Netherlands and Australia, ensuring ongoing eligibility.
- Ensures adherence to governance / substance requirements in each legal entity (incl. working with internal stakeholders to ensure that business processes are adjusted accordingly).
- Contributes to tax planning discussions and supports the optimization of tax strategies.
- Assists in maintaining transfer pricing documentation (monitor evolving international regulations, provide advice on intercompany transactions, monitor country-by-country reporting rules, etc.).
- Participates in planning and compliance activities related to the internal cash pool.
- Conducts research and analyses for various projects (i.e., identify potential issues and challenges within global tax regulations.
Proactively seek out areas for improvement and develop solutions to address them).
- Prepares Canadian corporate income tax filings and coordinates non-Canadian tax filings with internal team or external advisors.
- Actively participates in the management and coordination Canadian corporate income tax audits (federal and provincial).
- Participates in planning and compliance activities related to the internal cash pool.
- Develops automation practices and optimal use of the Company’s information systems for the taxation area.
- Maintains relationships with external tax firms and professionals and liaise with external auditors.
- Remains informed on all new jurisprudence and decisions issued by courts in matters of taxation law, as well as new approaches and directives taken by the taxation authorities.
Qualification and skills
- 5 years and more of tax experience in a global consulting firm and / or a multinational corporation.
- Global awareness and experience working in a multinational environment (i.e., cross-border environment).
- Experience in various tax domains such as domestic tax, international tax, and transfer pricing, etc. is preferred.
- CPA designation (or a university degree in accounting).
- Advanced tax training certificate / diploma (e.g., Masters in Taxation or CICA In-depth Tax Courses).
- Bilingual in French and English (verbal and written).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, adept at addressing various levels of challenges at a micro and macro level.
- Strong knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to taxation, particularly in an international context.
- Exceptional oral and written presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Complex tax laws and financial concepts need to be explained in understandable terms to various stakeholders.
