Your Opportunity

The role of a Project Engineer is to help deliver a broad spectrum of infrastructure projects and build our transportation sector business in the Lower Mainland.

Depending on experience level, this role may also be suitable for a Project Manager with local experience in the Lower Mainland.

As a project engineer (or project manager), you will balance both technical and project management responsibilities, with a focus on structural engineering assignments.

This will involve interfacing directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to effectively manage project deliverables, with a focus on quality and team collaboration.

In terms of execution of the work, you will be responsible for coordinating drawing production, report preparation, and structural engineering analysis / calculations with support from junior engineers.

You will work in our local Burnaby or downtown Vancouver office alongside multi-discipline planning and engineering colleagues from our sub-sector work streams :

A Project Engineer (or Project Manager) has the interpersonal skills to support management in fostering a positive team environment and support a culture of safety.

Through your broad structural engineering background, you will apply your professional consulting abilities to lead structural design tasks, prepare proposal documents, and take responsible charge of work products.

The scope of your role will require a variety of office and field tasks, which may include : planning, preliminary design, detailed design, tender / construction support, project controls, proposal writing, and quality management.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for technical teams ranging from 1 to 10 colleagues, including junior engineers, technologists, subject matter experts, and CAD technicians.
  • Take responsible charge of design tasks, including production of engineering drawings, technical specifications, opinions of probable costs (engineer's estimates), engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies.
  • May be responsible for the review and sealing of own projects or the work of the others.
  • Multi tasking and time management is critical to the position, with the proven track record to handle a balance of internal and external meetings and coordination, while also meeting budget and schedule requirements.
  • Play a key role in supporting leadership and senior management in the design and construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and reviewing agency personnel.
  • Be an active team member in coordination meetings to review project and proposal milestones, confirm resource needs, review client expectations, facilitate inter-office work collaboration, and plan team building activities.
  • Lead key sections of proposal documents including scope / schedule / fee resourcing plans for heavy civil infrastructure projects, with a focus on structural engineering of retaining walls, bridges, culverts, wharves, docks, foundations, and marine structures.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong communication skills, including an aptitude for value-based leadership and people management.
  • Ambitious desire to help contribute to the growth our award-winning design team in the local market, as well as across North America on exciting ports and marine project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of infrastructure projects, including conventional and alternative delivery methods for public and private clients.
  • Ability to effectively discuss and make presentations related to project plans, milestone updates, and technical issues with clients and stakeholders.
  • Possesses excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Comprehensive understanding of design codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions; specifically the CSA S6-14 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code with BC Supplement to CHBDC S6-14.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD, SAP2000, CSiBridge, Civil3D, GIS, MathCAD, and MS Excel Macros.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field. Demonstrated experience on structural engineering assignments.
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer with registration in BC. Minimum of 8-12 years of experience.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s) :

Salary Range(s) :

Lower Mainland $104,300 - Lower Mainland $156,500 Min / Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
