The Specialist, Technical Training supports the Manager, Technical Training in the development and facilitation of e-Learning and Instructor Led courses to increase the knowledge and skill of our Dealership Technicians.

The Incumbent also supports Subaru Academy with the adaptation or facilitation of technical based training to other Dealer personnel, such as Service Managers and Service Consultants.

The incumbent will report to the Manager, Technical Training and will be based out of Subaru Canada’s head office in Mississauga, Ontario (hybrid workstyle).

Primary Job Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of instructor-led courses in Calgary, Vancouver, and other Western region locations, ensuring all necessary elements for successful knowledge transfer are in place.
  • Facilitate instructor-led courses in other regions (i.e., Eastern and Central regions), as required.
  • Assist in the design, development, or restructuring of e-Learning courses, job aids, reference guides and classroom training related materials.
  • Oversee the respective Technical Training Centre / s for day-to-day operations and maintain assets such as, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, storage, and security procedures.
  • Configure e-Learning courses on Subaru Canada’s Learning Management Systems (LMS) including testing to ensure proper functionality.
  • Respond to requests for assistance from Dealership employees with regards to accessing or navigating the Learning Management System.
  • Promote and manage all aspects related to attendance of dealer personnel at training events, including registration tracking.
  • Attend Train the Trainer sessions and events as necessary in Toronto, USA, or Japan.
  • Actively pursue and participate in training and education activities that improve your own technical product knowledge and presentation / facilitation skills, including completing and maintaining all Subaru training certifications as required by parent company, Subaru Corporation (SBR).
  • Provide technical assistance or advice to other departments and Dealers.
  • Participate in preparation and facilitation of the Subaru National Technician Competition and other recognition events as required.
  • Prepare examination questions for the Technician Recognition Program, and other Technical Training courses as required.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Skills / Attributes :

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex automotive systems.

Qualifications :

  • Licensed Automotive Technician (Red Seal) required.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Hold a valid passport with the ability to travel within Canada, the United States and Japan.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a technical automotive position within an OEM dealership; Subaru experience an asset.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems and course creation software is an asset.
  • Adept in digital proficiency with intermediate skills in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience delivering relevant instruction in a technical setting.
