Reporting to the Director, Student Programs and Legal Recruitment, the Student Practice Manager will develop and manage a centralized resource allocation system to distribute work and growth opportunities equitably and efficiently to summer and articling students, while ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained across all practice groups.
In this new role, the successful incumbent will possess a passion for innovation and strong project management skills.
Major Responsibilities :
- Develop systems and protocols to track the quantity and quality of work students receive
- Establish and implement work allocation best practices
- Deliver and reinforce docketing and practice management training to students
- Regularly meet with students and lawyers to facilitate optimal resourcing and to oversee the delegation of non-billable tasks and projects
- Provide input to the Director, Student Programs and Legal Recruitment and the Students Committee on student resourcing and capacity levels, to assist with annual student intake numbers, rotation planning, secondments and related recruitment initiatives
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
This position requires an undergraduate degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a large law or professional services firm in a supervisory or managerial role, or a law degree and experience practicing in a large law firm coupled with an appetite to acquire strong management and program implementation skills.
