Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor - Municipal Recycling Facility

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a maintenance department and the supervision of a team responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of equipment.

Ensure all repairs and / or maintenance to equipment is performed in accordance with Company safety and compliance standards

Job Description / Key Responsibilities :

  • Oversee the daily planning and scheduling of all repair work to optimize productivity. Follow up on repairs being made, perform repairs as needed and appraise performance of shop personnel.
  • Supervise, coach, train, evaluate employee performance or behavior; provide input into hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, compensation, and promotion decisions
  • Conduct daily shop huddles
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure all work was properly completed in accordance with the Company’s safety and compliance procedures, follow up where appropriate
  • Plan and schedule repairs in Hippo CMMS planner and procure all parts for a successful plan.
  • Analyze the quality and effectiveness of the work performed
  • Assist with an inventory control system to ensure necessary equipment and part levels are maintained and purchases are within budget
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner
  • Manage related administrative matters for the team, including payroll, employee records, records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, recording of all information into Company maintenance software
  • Maintain open communication with other departments and leadership to ensure fluid and effective operations
  • Introduce departmental goals and performance objectives established by District and Corporate leadership
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs
  • Conduct periodic safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote morale, productivity, and efficiency

Competencies :

  • High School diploma or GED
  • One (1) or more years of lead technician or supervisory experience
  • Microsoft Office experience

  • Ability to supervise, coach, counsel, discipline, and train employees
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity, trust, and maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
  • Knowledge of welding, compactor repair
  • Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.

Position is full-time Work Environment The Maintenance Supervisor may work in various weather conditions. May be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells.
