Belvika is currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor at the facility in Markham, Ontario. This role will report to the Operations Site Manager and will be responsible for approximately 8+ employees.

This position is ideal for an individual with a strong mix of leadership experience in food co-packaging or manufacturing environment, an ability to work with various systems and processes, and a desire to take on new challenges in a fast paced and exciting customer focused environment.

The successful candidate will :

  • Supervise, coach, motivate, and develop a high-performing maintenance team, ensuring they meet objectives and adhere to company guidelines;
  • Conduct regular staff reviews, set goals, and provide feedback on performance;
  • Implement disciplinary actions, when necessary, in accordance with company policies;
  • Develop and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure compliance with food safety regulations;
  • Ensure that staff maintain a heightened awareness of safety in all maintenance tasks, providing necessary training and enforcing safety protocols to ensure Health and Safety compliance;
  • Provide comprehensive training for the maintenance team on the operation and utilization of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
  • Drive daily focus on continue improvement to support site productivity targets;
  • Lead continuous learning initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members;
  • Lead root cause analysis of unplanned equipment breakdown to drive improved equipment uptime;
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facilities to identify maintenance issues and ensure timely resolution;
  • Oversee maintenance activities to resolve identified problems efficiently;
  • Perform various maintenance tasks as needed, including repairs, troubleshooting, and equipment servicing;
  • Develop and maintain a structured planning and scheduling routine for preventive maintenance of equipment;
  • Prioritize maintenance tasks and estimate work requirements, providing technical assistance in developing job plans;
  • Oversee and coordinate activities with external professionals such as electricians, plumbers, and other contractors as required;
  • Inspect and ensure the maintenance of essential building systems including heating, electrical, air conditioning, and ventilation etc.;
  • Maintain budgetary control over maintenance expenditures;
  • Manage staff hours effectively to optimize productivity and efficiency;
  • Regularly check and inspect material and tools inventory, and place orders as needed to ensure adequate supplies;
  • Assist in the implementation of capital projects related to maintenance activities;
  • Implement and maintain an effective maintenance strategy;
  • Ensure accurate monthly reporting and validation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Maintain, monitor, and schedule activities within the CMMS;
  • Assign technicians to jobs and evaluate their work, procuring parts as needed;
  • Develop comprehensive work plans for the maintenance department and team, covering Preventive Maintenance (PM) and corrective work;
  • Perform purchasing duties, ensuring timely procurement of necessary supplies and equipment;
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly meetings to ensure effective communication and coordination within the maintenance team
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed, ensuring alignment with maintenance department functions;
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of food safety within the maintenance department and staff;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Work experience requirements :

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Supervisor for (5+) years, in a food facility;
  • Professional Certifications will be considered an advantage;
  • In-depth knowledge of different building systems (heating, electrical, air conditioning, ventilation etc.);
  • Familiarity with relevant health and safety standards and regulations;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Key technical & behavioural competencies :

  • Previous experience with CMMS, SAP or other ERP software systems, including Nulogy, considered an asset;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel;
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking abilities;
  • Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Reevaluating existing priorities and readjust priorities based on business demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Ability to lead a dynamic team and increase overall performance.
