Job Summary : As a Food Security Facilitator, you will support residents and stakeholders in enhancing community capacity through holistic and collaborative approaches.

Your role will involve relationship building, community engagement, program development, and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Researching, planning, and sharing information on existing and potential food security projects through community forums, consultations, and classroom instruction.
  • Facilitating partnerships between North End organizations / agencies involved in community gardens and food security activities such as community kitchens, hamper programs and good food box program.
  • Enhancing residents’ capacity and knowledge of food security, with a focus on youth, seniors, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, and low-income groups.
  • Promoting the wellness benefits of community gardens to health providers in the North End.
  • Supporting both existing and new community garden initiatives.
  • Furthering the development of the North End Food Security Network.
  • Host food security workshops and educational sessions such as, cooking classes, how to best utilize a hamper, gardening workshops, and canning classes.
  • Performing administrative duties, including developing project funding proposals, submitting project reports, and staff reports, as well as data collection.
  • Assisting with the Selkirk Avenue Farmers market.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • 2-3 Years of hands on Culinary experience.
  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working in an inner-city setting.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Windows XP and Microsoft applications.
  • A commitment to building strong, healthy families and communities.
  • Availability for some evening work.
  • Experience in greening and food security activities.
  • Possession of a personal professional knife kit is considered a strong asset.
  • Having access to a vehicle and valid drivers license is an asset.

Other Key Skills / Knowledge :

  • Experience in group facilitation.
  • Knowledge of the North End of Winnipeg and its diverse community.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations.
