What you will do

The General Manager, Camp and Community Youth Programming is responsible for the operational management of the YMCA’s camp and community youth programs, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day delivery and high‑quality participant experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing operational management to the YMCA’s camp and community youth programs
  • Providing supervision to the Program Managers and their teams
  • Implementing new and emerging initiatives and supporting program rollout
  • Interpreting data and reports to make informed operational decisions and adjustments
  • Responding to interruptions and time‑sensitive issues escalated by the team
  • Coordinating across multiple sites and programs, balancing operational priorities
  • Participating in hands‑on program responsibilities, including program delivery and kitchen operations
  • What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

    Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Recreation, Education, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
  • Graduate degree (e.g., MBA, Education, or related discipline) is considered an asset
  • Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • French is considered a strong asset
  • Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive experience in youth program development, including designing, implementing, and evaluating large‑scale programs
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in camping, outdoor education, or youth programming, with minimum 3 years in a leadership capacity
  • Minimum Level 2 Challenge Course Management Certification
  • National Lifeguard Service, Wilderness First Aid, and Paddle Canada certifications are considered assets
  • Experience with inclusion practices within camping, education or recreation settings
  • Knowledge of child and youth development, behaviour management, and Camping Quality Recommended Practices
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to advocate for and represent the Camp and Community Youth Program portfolios
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, motivating and supporting teenagers, young adults, seasonal staff and full‑time team members
  • Additional Requirements

  • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old, is required
  • Semi‑annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion
