Senior Software Developer

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 135 + 135 Days
Work Arrangement: Onsite 5 Days a Week
Hourly Rate: $60 - $67 CAD Inc

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a public-facing online registration and permit portal using Next.js, TypeScript, and React.

The solution will integrate with a back-office system through middleware and REST APIs.

Mandatory Skills

  • 10+ years of experience as a designer and developer in large-scale, multi-client web applications.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and REST APIs/RESTful Web Services.

  • 5+ years of experience with HTML5 and CSS.

  • 5+ years of experience with Node.js tools such as NPM.

  • 5+ years of experience with RxJS.

  • 3+ years of experience with Bootstrap and jQuery.

  • 3+ years of experience with Git.

  • Working experience with Next.js and Vue.js.

  • Knowledge and experience with microservices architecture.

  • Knowledge of programming Internet-ready applications.

  • Proven experience with WCAG and AODA.

  • Experience with responsive web application development.

  • Object-oriented coding practices, design patterns, refactoring, and clean code.

Leadership, Communication & Collaboration

  • Ability to lead, mentor, and coach developers and technical teams.

  • Experience coordinating work across developers, testers, business analysts, architects, and stakeholders.

  • Strong stakeholder management and client engagement skills.

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and implementation plans.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience producing technical documentation, solution designs, and knowledge transfer materials.

  • Ability to facilitate decision-making and resolve technical challenges.

  • Experience building collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing teams.

Problem Solving, Innovation & Delivery

  • Ability to analyze complex business and technical problems and develop effective solutions.

  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time while managing risks, dependencies, and competing priorities.

  • Experience leveraging AI technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, AI Agents, and LLMs to improve productivity and solution delivery.

  • Focus on continuous improvement, automation, and development best practices.

  • Ability to identify modernization opportunities and drive innovation.

  • Experience balancing strategic architecture decisions with hands-on delivery responsibilities.

Nice to Have

  • Previous Ontario Public Service (OPS) or public-sector experience.

Work Arrangement

The resource is expected to work onsite Monday to Friday, during standard working hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding lunch breaks.
