Associate Head, Academics

Principal, Middle & Senior School

The York School

The York School (York) is a leading independent, co-educational International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in midtown Toronto, serving 775 students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 across two state-of-the-art urban campuses. Founded in 1965, The York School is committed to creating exceptional learning experiences that nurture curious, globally minded learners who lead with integrity and purpose. York offers the IB Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs, alongside its distinctive Personalized Pathway program. Guided by a strategic plan that centres on exceptional learning experiences, wellbeing and belonging, and operational excellence, The York School is a vibrant and forward-looking community where students are known, supported, and encouraged to discover their full potential.

The York School invites applications for two leadership positions: Associate Head, Academics, and Principal, Middle and Senior School.

Associate Head, Academics

Reporting to the Head of School and serving as a key member of the Leadership Team, the Associate Head, Academics will provide strategic leadership for teaching and learning across York’s JK–12 program. Working closely with the Principals, the Associate Head will translate the School’s strategic priorities into academic practice, strengthen leadership capacity, and foster coherence and continuous improvement across divisions. The Associate Head will lead curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, faculty development, professional learning, and evidence-informed innovation and thoughtful experimentation, while ensuring alignment with relevant accreditation requirements. They will foster a collaborative culture that values shared expertise, consultation, and collective problem-solving, ensuring that diverse perspectives inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate for Associate Head will bring significant, progressive educational leadership experience, including experience leading academic programs, faculty, and educational leaders. They will have deep knowledge of contemporary curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and faculty development, together with a demonstrated ability to translate vision into action and develop leaders. A thoughtful, strategic, and collaborative leader, they will build high-performing teams, navigate complex issues with sound judgement, remaining connected to the student experience and visible in the day-to-day life of the School. They will demonstrate exceptional emotional intelligence, approach change with confidence and steadiness, and balance fresh thinking with respect for the strengths and expertise that exist within the School community. Experience in an independent, international, and/or IB school environment is an asset.

Principal, Middle & Senior School

Reporting to the Associate Head, Academics, the Principal, Middle & Senior School will provide strategic, visible, and relational leadership for students and faculty in Grades 7–12. The Principal will champion academic excellence and student experience across the Middle and Senior School and will be a highly visible presence in the life of the division, building authentic relationships with students and fostering a strong sense of connection, belonging, and engagement, overseeing the IB Middle Years and Diploma Program while leading faculty development, innovation in teaching and learning, including thoughtful engagement with emerging trends and technologies shaping the future of education, and co-curricular programming. They will work closely with the Leadership Team and academic leaders across the School, fostering a collaborative culture that values shared expertise, open dialogue, and collective problem-solving, to align K–12 initiatives, build strong partnerships with parents and families, and provide thoughtful leadership of the division's people, budget, and operations.

The ideal candidate will bring progressively senior leadership experience in education, ideally in a Middle and Senior School setting. They will demonstrate a track record of developing and executing a research-informed academic vision, leading complex school-wide initiatives, managing competing priorities effectively, and guiding communities through periods of change with confidence, empathy, and steadiness. An engaging, collaborative, and service-oriented leader, they will demonstrate exceptional emotional intelligence and a genuine commitment to understanding and supporting students. They will value diverse perspectives, embrace thoughtful innovation, and exercise sound judgment in balancing fresh ideas with the strengths of an established community, while building trust and navigating complex relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader community. Excellent communication, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills are essential, as is comfort working in a technologically rich school environment.

Applications are encouraged immediately and should be submitted online at https://careers.odgers.com/en-ca/32079. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and interviews with The York School will take place over the fall term, with a start date in the summer of 2027. Please submit a letter of interest and identify the role(s) of interest (Associate Head and/or Principal) along with a detailed resume. The position will remain open until filled. Please direct inquiries and accommodation requests to Julia Robarts and Cora Hui at Odgers at tys@odgers.com. Both postings are for existing vacancies.

The York School is committed to an inclusive and accessible workplace and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates, including those from equity-deserving communities. They value the diverse perspectives and experiences that strengthen its school community. Accommodation will be available upon request throughout the recruitment and selection process.
