Job description

Le français suit.

The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) represents Canada’s largest national and international passenger air carriers: Air Canada, Air Transat, Jazz Aviation LP and WestJet. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Ottawa, the NACC advocates for safe, environmentally responsible, and competitive air travel by promoting the development of sound public policy and engaging with government and industry stakeholders. NACC’s members collectively carry over 80 million passengers annually, directly employ over 60,000 people and serve as a critical component of Canada’s overall air transport and tourism sector, which supports more than 630,000 jobs. The aviation industry is a vital economic driver in Canada, supporting job creation, trade, and tourism while advancing key priority areas such as affordability, infrastructure, and labour.

Managing a small, dedicated team and reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will have a threefold mandate: Strengthen the NACC’s advocacy efforts and national profile, provide knowledge leadership to members, and provide strategic and administrative guidance to the internal team. In addition to leading the activities of the NACC and enhancing the political profile of the aviation industry, the CEO will proactively monitor and engage in public policy discussions and consultations that affect the aviation industry, provide input into the development and implementation of regulations, particularly relating to safety and security, the environment, labour and competitive air travel, and provide information and the opinion of Canada’s aviation industry on public policy issues. The CEO acts as a spokesperson for the NACC and has responsibility for advocacy and stakeholder management and engagement.

As the ideal candidate, you are a persuasive and strategic leader with experience in government relations, advocacy, communications, strategic guidance and public policy. Expert in building and managing strong stakeholder networks, you have proven administrative leadership in industry, government, or national industry associations. A collaborative leader who is comfortable working effectively with a board in formulating national aviation strategy and translating into outcomes. A natural relationship builder and excellent communicator, you possess sound analytical skills, understand policy and regulatory development, and are adept at navigating the political and regulatory arenas. Bilingualism is required, as is proximity to the NACC’s office in Ottawa.

This is a publicly advertised job posting for an existing vacancy. Odgers does not use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen, assess, or select applicants for a position.

To fill this position, NACC has partnered with leadership advisory firm Odgers. Applications are encouraged immediately and should be submitted online below.

We thank all those who express an interest, however only those chosen for further development will be contacted.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

NACC is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 and all applicable provincial accessibility standards, upon request, accommodation will be provided by both Odgers and NACC throughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.

Odgers is deeply committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all the work that we do. As part of our efforts to better understand our ability to reach as broad a pool of candidates as possible for our searches, our DEI team would like to encourage you to take a moment and access our Self-Declaration Form.
