About the Role
The Infrastructure Automation Architect is tasked with designing and developing Infrastructure Automation across the On-premise and Azure stack.
You will take advantage of cutting-edge technologies to improve the deployment and utilization of Automation techniques throughout the organization.
This role blurs the line between Infrastructure Automation and DevOps. Daily tasks by the Infrastructure Automation Architect include owning the Automation infrastructure, defining Automation best practices, building the Automation stack, and creating an Infrastructure Automation framework within the Azure Cloud.
The Infrastructure Automation Architect focuses on implementing tools to build a robust platform for use by all development teams and guiding development and documenting automation standards for use by the organization.
This platform includes Infrastructure Automation of Azure Storage, Compute, Networking, Security, Monitoring, Alerting and emerging Hybrid Cloud Automation tools.
The role requires that the individual be a consensus builder that works to align I & O architectural strategy and design with architectural guidelines, application strategy and business goals.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop strategic automation program to improve I & O efficiency and reduce OPEX costs with the FinOps team
- Establish a 3-year Automation Architectural roadmap
- Run automation projects and assessments as required
- Develop and maintain the Automation Community of Practice
- Develop and maintain the growth of the large SME’s to enable IaC as standard practice
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Infrastructure Automation (Cloud and On-premise)
- Evangelize, communicate and be a champion for the automation vision and technology stack to the various I & O and Teranet development teams
- Act as a mentor for automation resources, as well as provide training to automation resources on testing strategies, standards, new tools and processes
- Assess, develop and deploy Automation Platform technologies into Azure Dev / UAT and Production systems in the Azure Cloud
- Assist in the deployment of Azure AKS Container Platform technologies to support the Manitoba project team
- Assist in the evaluation & deployment of Azure products with the Cloud Architect
- Responsible for evaluating current and future-state initiatives and providing expertise and hands-on experience automating and orchestrating IT software and services.
About You
- Degree in a computer related field or equivalent required.
- 10+ years’ experience in IT infrastructure support role.
- 7+ years’ experience in developing automated tests for web application, mobile application or REST APIs (e.g. selenium).
- Preferred Certifications TOGAF, Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator and AZ900
- Experience designing and building automation solutions (Custom or Pre-built)
- Experience coordinating with multiple project teams
- Experience with CI tools (i.e. Jenkins, Git, Drone)
- Expert in modern programming in at least one or more modern languages (Python, JavaScript, go PowerShell ..)
- Collaborate with Teranet Architects and DevOps teams in the development of integrated, automated, orchestrated and application-oriented architectures for On-prem and Private Cloud-based services.
- Analyze and determine the cause of systems software failures, hardware failures, and performance deficiencies.
- Responsible for the availability, performance, security, and maintenance of production on-premises and Cloud-based infrastructure servers and systems.
- Document existing and new infrastructure deployments.
- Establish and implement system guidelines, practices, procedures, and standards.
- Provide training and expertise within team and peer workgroups.
- Research and resolve questions from users, management and other technical personnel.

Preferred Skills
- Azure server experience in an enterprise environment including but not limited to knowledge in :
- Skill in designing, installing, configuring and maintaining cloud based infrastructure, hardware, operating and application systems and utilities including high availability systems.
- Knowledge of Azure systems administration theory, principles, and practices. Azure Cloud security practices and network protocols.
- Knowledge of current and emerging software and hardware technologies.
- A strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience, and / or industry activities.
- Strong communicator both verbal and written.
- Ability to multi-task between multiple complex projects and operational requests.
