Thesepositions are for a project located in East York Toronto in the DonValley area. If you are unable or not interested in commuting tothis location daily please do notapply.

Monitoringand supporting Health & Safety compliance across multiplesites. Responsible for auditing inspecting and verifying the safetyplanning organization and implementation of safety activitiesrelated to the prevention of accidents and occupational injuries onconstruction sites.

Advise and make recommendations to HSECoordinators as well as project supervisors and management onsafety matters. Assist the company in maintaining its CORcertification by ensuring compliance spot auditing identifying gapsoutlining an action plan and providing input in the development ofpolicies programs documentation and training resources for thesafety team management supervisors and workers to achieve success.

Jobduties :

  • Workclosely with the Provincial HSE Manager to implement appropriatestrategies to achieve company divisional and departmental goals andtargets.
  • Liasewith all HSE Coordinators to provide guidance in accordance withour OHSMS as well as CORrequirements.
  • Conductsite inspections to verify compliance or identify deficiencies withexpected practices and behaviours identify hazards and suggestcontrols related to the various job tasks procedures equipment orparticularsituations.
  • ControlHealth and Safety related documentation to ensure it continues tomeet current regulations when it is distributed to projects foruse.
  • Assistin accident investigations with the project team. Provide supportin adhering to our Event Management Protocols and Proceduresincluding ensuring all reporting requirements are met.
  • EvaluateJob Hazard Analysis (JHAs) and other risk analysis tools foraccuracy andthoroughness.
  • Recommendappropriate means of accident and incident prevention to managersrelated to corrective actionsrequired.
  • Assistin the development of project emergency response / evacuation plansfor variousprojects.
  • Participatein official inquiries by Government Officials according toestablished rules and provide projects with guidance to comply withorders.
  • Counselmanagement (PM superintendent foreman) and workers on the steps totake to meet the safetyrequirements.
  • Participatein the creation of various project specific standards methods andsafetyprocedures.
  • Maintaincontact with sites and provide support to enable them to develop apositive safety culture on theirprojects.
  • Ensureconsistency in expected safety performance on projects and verifythat the progressive discipline system is being fairly andconsistently applied on allprojects.
  • Enterinformation daily into the EBC SafetyDatabase.
  • Trackprojects and divisional statistics related to both proactiveactivities and events to ensure that they fall in line withexpectations.
  • Maintainsafety related files in a properly structured manner both relatedto hard copies and electronicfiles.
  • Assistwith COR auditing as directed by the Provincial HSEManager.

Requirements

  • Completionof a College or University program related to Safety practices inConstruction;
  • Workon Construction / Industrial sites specifically in Ontario;preferably on a broad range of work involving labour and equipmentoperation surveyingengineering traffic control quality controlproject support / supervision andtrades;
  • Geographicand Cultural Diversity with exposure to several regions companiesand peoples to gain awareness of safety expectations anddifferences in businesspractices;
  • Proficiencyin the use of computer related business tools such as MicrosoftOffice (Word Excel PowerPoint) and other commonly used programs(Paint Adobe Acrobat Database Programs and Internet Browsers);
  • Filemanagement (copy paste rename file and find) as well as takingscreen shots and using basic graphics files (paint) to crop orhighlight pictures and addtext;
  • OccupationalHealth and Safety training related to applicable Acts andRegulations and an understanding of the background related to therequirement to explain the reasons why things are done whenquestioned;
  • Healthand safety certifications including a minimum CHSO / NCSO Provincialrecognition as well as working towards a minimum of Gold SealCanadian Construction Association National Certification.
  • A desireserious ambition and action plan towards achieving a CRSP CHSC orother senior OHS designation should beexpected;
  • Otherstandard safety related certifications (or the ability to achievethem) that allow for ease of moving on / between projects such asFirst Aid Confined Spaces Trainingetc;
  • Abilityto work independently and communicate effectively when workingwithinteams.
