About this opportunity

At Meridian our aspiration is to integrate our purpose into everything we do for people, the planet, and communities. We believe that our greatest opportunity is to create opportunity and meet people where they are.

We’re looking for an HR Technology Technical Lead to take ownership of our HR technology ecosystem and help shape how more than 2,000 employees experience HR every day. In this role, you’ll be the technical authority behind our core HR platforms—configuring, optimizing, securing, and continuously improving systems that support the full employee lifecycle.

You’ll work closely with HR, IT, Risk, and business partners to turn complex needs into intuitive, scalable solutions. While this role has no direct reports, it plays a critical leadership role by mentoring others, setting technical standards, and leading cross‑functional initiatives that modernize and automate HR processes.

Key Responsibilities :

As the HR Technology Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the technical health, governance, and evolution of our HR systems. You’ll balance hands‑on configuration work with strategic thinking, risk management, and collaboration across the organization.

Lead the Technical Direction of HR Systems

  • Act as the technical lead for all standard and non‑standard HR system configuration, security, and enhancements
  • Set and model strong change control practices, including documentation, testing, approvals, and production releases
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and informal leadership to junior HR Systems team members
  • Track and report on HR systems operational workload and identify opportunities to streamline and improve how work gets done

Own System Configuration & Optimization

  • Serve as the primary owner for HR system modules, workflows, and configuration decisions
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and proactively address configuration risks
  • Maintain clear, audit‑ready documentation including configuration guides and security models
  • Review vendor release notes and plan for the adoption of new features that add real value
  • Partner with HR program owners and end users to understand pain points and deliver thoughtful, user‑centric solutions
  • Ensure Strong Governance, Security & Risk Management

  • Apply rigorous change control to minimize the risk of defects, data loss, or unauthorized access
  • Lead and participate in testing activities for system changes across the HR Systems workstream
  • Establish and maintain appropriate role‑based access controls, including quarterly access reviews
  • Review SOC reports and adjust system controls as required to meet security and compliance standards
  • Collaborate & Lead Cross‑Functional Initiatives

  • Work closely with HR, IT, Risk, and other partners to design automated, scalable solutions that reduce manual work
  • Build a strong understanding of HR programs and practices to better contextualize technical requests
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, practical language for non‑technical stakeholders
  • Take on project leadership or project management responsibilities for new modules, features, or system rollouts as needed
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

    Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep experience configuring HR platforms such as UKG, Workday, SuccessFactors, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of HR system security models, role‑based access, and data privacy requirements
  • Proven ability to configure, troubleshoot, and optimize complex HR systems
  • Excellent documentation skills to support audit, compliance, and long‑term sustainability
  • Strong analytical and consulting skills, with the ability to translate business needs into practical system solutions
  • How You Work

  • You’re detail‑oriented and take pride in building solutions that are reliable, secure, and well‑documented
  • You’re adaptable and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast‑changing environment
  • You collaborate easily across teams and build trust with both technical and non‑technical partners
  • You manage your time well, prioritize effectively, and deliver on commitments
  • Education, Work Experience, and Professional Designations / Certifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Human Resources, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in HR systems management or a similar technical role
  • Strong understanding of HR processes and system management principles
  • Why Join Us

  • Play a key role in shaping the future of HR technology across the organization
  • Influence decisions, set standards, and make meaningful changes that directly impact employees
  • Be part of a collaborative People & Culture team that values thoughtful design, governance, and continuous improvement
  • This role represents an existing vacancy. Internal candidates are being considered as part of our standard process.

Salary Range : CAD  $79,100.00 to $118,700.00   annually.

Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.

Office Location : Toronto Corporate Office located at 3280 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON   or   St. Catharines Corporate Office, located at 75 Corporate Park Drive, St. Catharines, ON.

Meridian has a remote work policy that allows flexibility for employees to work remotely but also requires regular time in the office for purposeful meetings to collaborate, innovate and build effective relationships with your team, your colleagues and your leader which is very important to us.

    What's in it for you?

  • We have an inclusive and collaborative working environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and celebrates success
  • We provide you with the tools and technology needed to delight your candidates and clients
  • You'll get to work with and learn from diverse industry leaders
  • Hybrid work arrangements with in-person office time to collaborate, innovate and build relationships with your colleagues
  • This isn't your typical "corporate" job. We work hard and we have fun!
  • Build the Future of Banking with Us

At Meridian, we’re not just adapting to the future—we’re shaping it. We see talent as a catalyst for   sustainable growth ,  community impact , and  future-readiness . As the financial landscape evolves, we’re looking for team members who bring :

  • Embedding & leveraging technology  – Confidence and willingness to learn and integrate AI and emerging technologies into new ways of working.  Experience with low / no code tools like the Microsoft Power Platform and generative AI productivity tools like Microsoft Copilot is considered an asset
  • Critical Thinking  – The ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret information from various sources and apply logic and problem solving to make decisions.
  • Data Driven – Leverage data and insights to identify, prioritize and improve member experience and business efficiency.
  • Curiosity & Flexibility  – Comfortable navigating and embracing change and uncertainty, ask more questions, explore more options. Continuously learn and grow.
  • Who we are :

Meridian is Ontario’s largest credit union, and second largest in Canada, helping to grow the lives of our more than 380,000 Members. Meridian has more than 80 years of banking history and is 100% owned by its members. With 87 retail branches and 15 Business Banking Centers across Ontario and $ 32B in assets under management, Meridian offers a full range of financial products and services to its retail, business banking and wealth members.
