Role :
The Agriculture Assistant is responsible for supporting activities of the Seed breeding program located in Leamington Ontario, including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, plot and greenhouse upkeep, field sampling / data collection, seed harvesting, hybrid crossing and other seasonal and general duties in the Leamington winter greenhouse.
Responsibilities :
- Perform greenhouse crop upkeep tasks including pruning, clipping, and tying up of plants.
- Assist in tomato hybrid crossing in the greenhouse and field
- Assist in seasonal operational tasks, such as seeding, transplanting, weed control, harvesting tomatoes for seed, testing and data collection.
- Cleaning of Greenhouse and designated work area
- Report signs of insect or disease damage.
- Assist in special projects, as needed.
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior agriculture experience is a plus.
- Proficient in utilizing a computer to complete various aspects of the job, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.
- Ability to analyze, organize, solve problems, communicate effectively, perform duties as requested, work as a team and individually are required in this position.
- Possesses a high level of detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time under different weather conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, as you may drive a company vehicle.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
