The Specialist will perform a range of audits and reviews and partner with brokers and Aviva leaders to auditees to build fit-for-purpose solutions to drive excellence in underwriting quality.

The role will primarily take care of Quebec based reviews, while leaning in occasionally to perform reviews in other regions.

What you'll do

  • Leading the end-to-end reviews of brokers, MGAs, and internal business units, and providing an opinion on the quality of underwriting and the efficiency of key controls.
  • Drafting formal reports and presenting findings to senior management and brokers
  • Leading the action plan development process - Partnering with brokers and Aviva leaders to conduct root cause analysis and build fit-for-purpose action plans.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of agreed action plans
  • Supporting the AVP, PIQA and the team with ad-hoc projects and reports.
  • Working closely with all Regions and key internal partners ensuring ongoing partnership and collaboration.
  • Monitoring regional underwriting practices in relation to compliance with provincial laws and insurance regulations.
  • The role may require 10%-20% travel and will also provide flexibility to work from home and other locations.

What you'll bring

Technical :

Outstanding and solid underwriting background - Minimum 7 years Personal Insurance Underwriting experience as a Senior Underwriter.

Quebec regional experience is preferred).

  • Bilingual a must - proficient in French and English
  • Solid understanding of Aviva systems, including the Broker Portal, Policy Center (Guidewire), Claim Center (Knowledge of the General is an asset)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Should be able to build and appropriately format professional reports, tables, charts in Word.

Should be able to navigate spreadsheets and analyze data by sorting, filtering, summing etc.

  • Some knowledge of audit processes and methodology; preferably, some risks and controls background
  • University degree or equivalent education; Insurance / Risk Management Certification (CIP, CRM) is an asset.

Soft Skills :

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English ; good report writing skills.
  • Ability to deal confidently with senior partners
  • Ability to manage multiple reviews / projects simultaneously within timelines. Good prioritization, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-driven and demonstrate initiative
  • Fast learner and easily adapting to change
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to develop effective stakeholder relationships and negotiate 'win-win' solutions
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail- ability to sift through data and assess the risk to Aviva, keeping the 'big picture' in mind.
  • Phenomenal work ethic, genuine team player, and a very positive attitude
