Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Design and Project management

Management of structural transportation engineering team activities and support to project managers / technical staff in the delivery of multidisciplinary projects within the province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg.

In addition, the selected individual will also support transportation projects across the company

  • Development of technical expertise on a variety of structural transportation engineering projects, including structural design and analysis of bridges, culverts and other transportation structures through all phases of work from functional and preliminary designs, detailed designs and owner’s engineering services
  • Provide contract administration or support services on structural engineering projects during construction
  • Liaison with multidisciplinary project teams (including transportation and municipal engineers, transportation systems planners, planners, environmental scientists, technical support staff,
  • Development of client relationships and new business opportunities
  • Contribution to the career development of more junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Contributions to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request

Business Development

  • Prepare estimates and project proposals
  • Contribute to the development of public and private sector client relationships and new business opportunities
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request

Learning & Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. A graduate degree with an emphasis in structural engineering would be considered an asset
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer ( with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive professional experience, preferably with an emphasis on transportation projects within the consulting industry
  • Proven ability as a project manager of multi-disciplinary project teams related to structural and transportation infrastructure projects.

Experience delivering City of Winnipeg and Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure projects would be considered an asset

  • Strong working knowledge of CAN / CSA-S6 CHBDC, AASHTO LRFD and other relevant industry Codes and Standards
  • Proven leadership and business development capabilities

Experience

  • Proven experience with the rehabilitation and new design of various bridge types, culverts, and other transportation structures through all project phases, including functional design, preliminary and detailed design, and contract administration
  • Proficient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detailed design calculations, drawings, and reports, contract document preparation, and tendering
  • Demonstrated abilities in the leadership of multidisciplinary projects and teams
  • Exceptional abilities in project management
  • In-depth understanding of business issues associated with consulting engineering and planning
  • Proven skills in public and agency consultation
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential
