Associate Java Backend Developer

At CGI, we are seeking Intermediate Java Backend Developers (3-5 years) to join our Financial Services Technology team, where you will play a key role in developing and maintaining robust, high-performance systems that support critical financial operations. In this role, you’ll contribute to the evolution of Net Asset Value (NAV) platforms and fund operation systems that underpin shareholder transactions, performance reporting, and liquidity management. This is a permanent full-time position, working five days onsite at our Halifax, NS or Moncton, NB.

Your future duties and responsibilities :

• Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java / J2EE and Spring frameworks.
• Build and maintain APIs, web services, and database components including schemas, PL / SQL procedures, and transactional SQL in Oracle or DB2.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and senior engineers to define technical strategies and delivery plans.
• Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to design and architecture decisions.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless system integration and delivery.
• Adhere to best practices in testing, documentation, and full software development lifecycle management.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role :

4+ years of hands-on experience in Java backend development.

Strong database engineering skills, including schema design, PL / SQL, and SQL optimization.

Proficiency with Git and standard branching strategies.

Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges across complex platforms.

Solid understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and maintaining high code quality.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Bonus Skills :

Experience working in Agile delivery environments.

Familiarity with CI / CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, uDeploy), code quality tools (e.g., Sonar), and ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, HP Service Manager).

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Financial services or mutual fund operations experience is an asset.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors including but not limited to skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $50, - $95,.
