What We Need :

Completion of a Communicative Disorders Assistant, Early Childhood Education diploma or pediatric nursing is an asset

Experience conducting infant hearing screening (ADPOAE and AABR) is strongly preferred (but not required)

Experience working with young children (preferably infants) and their parents

Demonstrated strong knowledge of child development with an emphasis on hearing, speech and language

Effective public relation skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a sensitivity to people of different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Aptitude for learning and operating hearing screening equipment

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment

Proficient computer skills

Fluency in English; second language is an asset

Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required

Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard

Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Responsibilities may include :

Adhering to the MCCSS guidelines for the use of a consent script for Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (UNHS).

Using online systems (CDIS / Caredove) to capture consent and / or screening results and to book appointments for community screenings, where required

Conducting newborn hearing screening tests (using ADPOAE and AABR technology) on infants in hospital and / or community settings

Providing information to parents whose infant receives a refer result on the screening tests

Using the high-risk indicators to determine which children should enter our high-risk monitoring service

Working closely with hospital / community staff to ensure families are able to access the services available

Ensuring screening results are entered before the end of the day

Using the web-based scheduling system to track personal screening schedule, clinics, availability and requests for time off.

Maintaining equipment in good working order and ensuring a sufficient stock of supplies is available

Adhering to infection control protocols

Participating in meetings that pertain to their role as a hearing screener

Working with the Regional Trainer to :

  • Complete any required training
  • Address any protocol / procedure questions / concerns
  • Report any issues with equipment
  • Work out back-up coverage, if needed

Working with Manager and Clinical Leader to :

  • Report any shift scheduling questions / concerns
  • Ensure data meets MCCSS timeline for entry

What you bring to the role :

The Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program provides universal newborn hearing screening, diagnostic audiological assessment and follow-up, family support services and communication programming.

The Infant Hearing Screener will provide pre-discharge hospital and community screenings. In addition, other duties may be assigned to support the program, such as data entry and booking.

Work Schedule :

The successful candidate will be available :

At least 2-3 days per week (M-F) (shift length will vary but will not exceed 8 hours)

At least 1-2 weekends per month (shift lengths will vary depending on the number of infants to be seen)

The position will involve providing coverage at multiple locations across York and Durham Regions and flexible availability to provide back-up coverage is an asset.

Please note schedules are subject to change based on operational needs

Compensation :

YRSLP03 : $31.52- 37.66 per hour
