Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Director, Professional Practice and Education, Nursing to join the team within the Coastal Community of Care (CoC).
Reporting to the Executive Director, this key leadership role is integral to our purpose of ensuring a foundational layer of standards, processes, and programs that support and advance best practice and care in Nursing within Vancouver Coastal Health, Coastal Community of Care.
As a strategic connector, the Director will contribute to the vision of transforming healthcare by empowering our people to deliver the best care through digitally enabled and quality practice environments.
They guide the development of professional standards, and scope and lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical education.
They support research activities, fostering a culture of continuous learning and quality care delivery, aligning with our mission to meet the evolving needs of patients, clients, and communities.
Collaborating with Coastal CoC Directors, Practice and Education Directors from partnering Health Authorities, key players including the Ministry of Health, .
Nursing Policy Secretariat, and regulatory bodies such as BCCNM, our team is at the forefront of innovation. This individual will not only shape but elevate the standards of Professional Practice and Education, ensuring that VCH continues to set new benchmarks for excellence.
The Professional Practice Director, Nursing is a key liaison, building relationships across the organization, within the Acute and Community portfolios, to identify concerns in Nursing practice areas.
They collaborate with partners to address these through recommendations to enhance patient care delivery while balancing employee well-being.
They guide the Professional practice standards of practice, scope optimization, research activities and education for nurses.
Collaborates with the Clinical Education department and unit / program educators to discern and effectively address learning needs.
Demonstrates leadership and expertise in nursing, offering guidance on issues ranging from resource allocation, to integrating research.
The Director serves as a pivotal figure at the heart of defining excellence in care processes and cultivating environments conducive to quality practice.
Through fostering collaboration, influence, and consultation with diverse partners, they advocate for the promotion and advancement of nursing in alignment with VCH's vision, values, and strategic directions.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in a health sciences discipline, preferably in nursing.
- At least eight (8) years’ recent, related clinical and operational management experience in a complex health care environment including progressive clinical practice, education, research, project management and leadership experiences.
- Current practicing registration with an applicable regulatory body such as the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Knowledge & Abilities
- Fosters collaborative and effective working relationships to support Professional Practice and Education and ongoing development of staff by contributing to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
- Skilled in critically analyzing industry and Professional literature to inform decision-making.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing Professional Practice and Education issues and future directions at the provincial and national levels.
- Innovative leadership acumen, coupled with analytical and problem-solving skills, fostering collaborative decision-making.
- Creates and promotes development of research opportunities to ensure evidence-based practice within an interdisciplinary team-based environment.
- Strong program planning and development skills.
- Results oriented with the ability to develop and execute strategy across large complex organizations.
