NAIT’s Centre forSensors and System Integration (CSSI) is staffed with professional researchersto support Alberta businesses on Applied Research & Development projectsthat deliver innovative solutions, improved services, or more efficientprocess.
Businesses across all major Alberta industry sectors have identifieddigital transformation as being the critical next step in their operationalevolution.
CSSI helps address their challenges through prototyping activitiesin preparation for later commercialization, which in turn enhance theirproductivity, competitiveness, and innovation.
We may be automating a manual process, improving the use of an existingtechnology in an innovative way, sourcing an idea from industry andtransforming to a functional system, or designing and building something brandnew.
CSSI is looking toexpand the team’s technical expertise to meet growing industry needs in theareas of image analytics, computer vision, AI, automation and control, andadvanced data processing.
We are looking for someone who can use theirknowledge and experience to lead projects and deliver the data to our industrypartners to make informed and timely decisions as they transform theirbusinesses.
The ideal candidate hasstrong technical skills and is excited about innovative technology. Thesuccessful candidate will be proficient in one or more programmingplatforms.
We expect this person toshare their knowledge and help team members to develop their skills in his / herarea of expertise, enabling a broader impact across all our projects.
Aboveall, we are looking for someone with the desire to learn, the ability to adapt,and a history of successfully delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
KeyResponsibilities :
Project management. This includes identifying opportunities, project scoping, grant proposalwriting, technical & experimental design, drawings & documentation, andtechnical estimates / budgets based on client defined requirements andexpectations.
Also required are dataanalysis, report writing and presentations.
- Technical management. This encompasses the execution of applied research and developmentprojects independently or as part of a larger team, to deliver the newtechnologies, systems, and products that are requested.
- Leadership. This position is expected to provide mentoring and knowledge transfer toour existing junior and intermediate level technical staff for them to continuetheir professional development.
Skills& Abilities :
Technical Skills in the followingcategories are necessary :
- Strong background in image processing techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
- Experience with machine learning and deep learning algorithms, particularly in computer vision applications.
- Knowledge of popular deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Understanding of data preprocessing techniques for image analysis.
- Familiarity with image classification, object detection, and segmentation methods.
- Ability to work with large datasets and optimize algorithms for performance.
Working knowledge or familiaritywith the following will be an asset :
- Microcontroller based embedded system design and implementation.
- Knowledge of thermal imaging techniques, including image analysis, temperature measurement, interpretation, and software utilization.
- Experience in automotive or heavy machinery instrumentation.
Qualifications :
- A Masters in Engineering or related discipline, PhD isan asset.
- 2 years of experience in academic and / or industrialresearch.
- Equivalencies may be considered.
Applicants witheducation credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentialsevaluated by World Education Services or the International QualificationsAssessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration : $49,768.63- $66,761.06 annually (based on 25.375 hours per week), plus a comprehensivebenefits package. (Classification Research Associate I).
Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
