Job Overview
The Township of Langley is recruiting for a regular full-time Wastewater Collection Systems Operator 2 to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department.
Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will perform skilled mechanical work involving responsibility for the operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of wastewater systems, pumping stations and equipment
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, operate, service and install a variety of pumping station equipment
- Monitor and respond to telemetric alarms and emergency repair calls and take corrective action to restore service
- Assist a technician or engineer in complex electrical and major mechanical repair work and oversee the dismantling / removal of pumps and related pumping station equipment
- Investigate situations such as main blockages, overflowing manholes and sanitary sewer connection problems
- Direct the work of others performing the more less complex aspects of maintenance, repair and servicing work
- Perform other related work as required
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work and considerable experience in wastewater systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of pumping stations and systems
- Ability to inspect operations, diagnose and correct malfunctions, and perform pumping equipment and wastewater systems maintenance, repair, and installation
- Ability to read and interpret meters and gauges, order parts and materials and prepare reports and records related to the work
- Ability to direct the work of others and perform duties with minimal supervision
Required Certifications / Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications / licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver’s License. You must include with your application a current Personal Driving Record (select the 5-year option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date.
