Position Overview

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator is the key contact for Indigenous communities and members on the 264th Street Interchange Project.

Based out of the Site Office, the Indigenous Relations Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with local Indigenous communities.

This position must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent communication and relationship building skills.

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator will be fully integrated with the site project team.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities.

Location

This position is based in Kiewit's project site office in Langley for the 264th Street Interchange project. #LI-RP1

Responsibilities

  • Establishing and maintain productive working relationships with Indigenous communities;
  • Working closely with Indigenous communities to develop and implement the Indigenous Participation Plan;
  • Participating in meetings with Indigenous communities;
  • Assisting construction and procurement teams to identify upcoming employment, training and subcontracting opportunities and engaging with local Indigenous communities to ensure timely notification of all opportunities;
  • Facilitating delivery of Indigenous cultural sensitivity and / or awareness training for the project;
  • Engaging with Indigenous communities and completing regular check-ins, which may include in-person meetings, phone calls or email (depending on communication preference) for employment and training opportunities;
  • Working with Indigenous communities, ISETs and other Indigenous organizations to identify and leverage other training opportunities
  • Participating in community activities that promote cross-cultural engagement and inclusion of Indigenous values; and
  • Promoting local Indigenous values and fostering a positive workplace culture that aligns with these values.

Reporting :

  • Undertaking tracking and reporting in relation to the implementation of the Indigenous Participation Plan
  • Updating the Indigenous Participation Plan in collaboration with Indigenous communities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Relations, geography, archeology, anthropology, political science, public administration, forestry, natural resources, regional planning, business administration or related field
  • Minimum of five years recent demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with Indigenous groups and working with Indigenous groups to provide contracting, employment and / or training opportunities
  • Communicates clearly and effectively
  • Possesses strong organizational skills
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills
  • Manages time efficiently
  • Possesses solid problem-solving skills
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Power Point, and Outlook

Other Requirements :

  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary

Base Compensation : 70,000 - 85,000

  • Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and / or location
