SCS Manufacturing, Inc., a division of The Hazelwood Group, is seeking a full-time Drafter / Estimator to join our team of hard-working, dedicated staff at our production facility in South Nanaimo, BC.

Our ideal candidate comes with related experience and isn’t afraid of a fast-paced, lean manufacturing environment. We manufacture everything from small parts to steel gravel boxes, so speed, accuracy, and attention to detail are desired traits.

Compensation

$28-$34 per hour, depending on experience and education.

Summary

The Drafter / Estimator will play a crucial role in the development and preparation of drawings using CAD, ensuring that design drawings meet specifications and design data.

This individual will also be responsible for accurately estimating costs for new products, custom fabrication, and custom options, thereby contributing to the profitability of the business.

Job Duties

• Develop and prepare drawings using CAD, ensuring that design drawings conform to specifications and design data.
• Prepare and interpret conventional and CAD engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for machines and components.
• Prepare full-cost estimates for new products, custom fabrication, and custom options accurately and in a timely manner.
• Manage pricing updates and maintain the costing model to ensure accuracy and competitiveness in the market.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth project management.
• Ensure accuracy in estimating to prevent financial losses due to under-estimation and maintain competitiveness by avoiding over-estimation.
• Ensure that special order materials are forwarded to purchasing upon receiving the order.
• Create shop drawings and manage projects through production to meet quality standards and client specifications.
• Other duties as assigned to support the needs of the business.

Requirements

• Proficiency in CAD and other drafting software.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Proven experience in drafting and estimating in a manufacturing environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in estimating costs.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of material sourcing and supplier management.
• Experience with project management software is a plus.
