The McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) Neurosciences Program supports multiple clinical services including Regional Programs for Central South Ontario.
These services provide specialized care to children aged 0-18 years utilizing a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach to patient care.
McMaster Children’s Hospital specializes in neurosurgical, cranial and spine services. MCH is recognized by the Ministry of Health and Neurosurgery Ontario as a Regional Neurosurgical Centre supporting patient access to emergent / urgent as well as scheduled neurosurgical interventions for the HNHB and WW LHINs and for several regions in the province.
Position Summary
The Neuropsychologist and MCH will provide a consultative service to multi-disciplinary teams working with patients who are referred for assessment, and can provide recommendations and therapies related to appropriate interventions.
The position will provide service to the Neurosurgical patient population. Knowledge and experience in rehabilitation and treatment issues related to neurosurgical management are required.
Care plans may include individual, family, and / or systemic considerations in conjunction with ongoing medical and multi-disciplinary management.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday to Friday; days.
Qualifications
- Doctoral level training in Clinical Neuropsychology from an accredited university
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Psychologist or Psychologist in supervised practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario for the practice of neuropsychology
- Minimum of two (2) years recent, relevant experience working with children and adolescents
- Clinical training and current experience in psychological and neuropsychological assessment, treatment, and diagnosis of children and youth.
Experience with those undergoing investigation of seizures considered an asset
- Demonstrated competency and experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological testing, particularly tests related to cognitive (personality and socio-emotional) functioning
- Demonstrated consultation skills and ability to work flexibly with multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience providing supervision, teaching, and training
- Excellent interpersonal skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and SPSS (or similar database and statistical programs)
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and problem-solve effectively
- Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to provide education to health care providers, students, and community
- Familiarity with Consent to Treatment Act, Child and Family Services Act
- Interest in developing and participating in research
- Proficiency in both Official Languages, French and English, and or other languages is considered an asset.
