Job Summary
IPEX is a leading provider of thermoplastic piping products. We are expanding our operations in Canada & the U.S. and are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee large, complex, multi-year initiatives.
The successful individual will be responsible for managing end-to-end, critical projects that drive business improvements and strategic objectives for the IPEX Group of Companies.
Reporting to the Director, Project Management Office (PMO), the Senior Project Manager is the go-to person for all aspects of project management and activities associated with the project lifecycle.
As a good senior project manager, you will be responsible for delivering a final project that is on time, on budget and meets or exceeds the expectations of the stakeholders and / or clients (internal or external).
You will tie projects back to business goals to execute the company strategy. You will need to give acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to see the big picture, be resourceful, have risk-management capabilities, the ability to think critically, possess excellent communication skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to inspire and motivate.
The responsibilities of this role include projects and programs aimed at retrofits, upgrades, replacements, adding of capacity, and building new multimillion dollar manufacturing, research and development, and supply chain facilities.
The design, construction and launch of these facilities will be complex projects that will involve all functional areas of the company.
Most of the work will be performed in the Greater Toronto area with some travel across Canada and to the U.S.
Principal Responsibilities
PM Leadership
- Provide ownership, accountability, and oversight for assigned programs and projects.
- Responsible to define, prioritize and deliver cross-functional and integration projects.
- Responsible for planning, executing, tracking, managing of cost, schedule, quality, and scope.
- Able to handle multiple projects or programs at any one time.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project team members.
- Ability to flex between wearing multiple hats as a strategic and operational leader.
Cross-functional Team Management
- Organize and appropriately allocate resources.
- Obtain buy in, resolve conflicts, and manage stakeholder expectations and requirements.
- Building and maintaining strong internal customer relationships to ensure delivery of quality projects in alignment with regional initiatives and requirements across the enterprise.
Planning, Monitoring & Documentation
- Prepare project artifacts including project charter, project funding, and capital request documents based on industry standards and best practices.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines based on management objectivesMS Project; activities, deliverables, schedules, dependencies, and responsible partiesDefine and track project metrics, resources, overdue tasks, critical milestones, costs, issues
- Use modern project management tools and best practices to ensure that assigned projects are successfully delivered on time and on budget.
Coordination & Communications
- Project manage and coordinate across functional teams consisting of business team members (internal, external, consultants, contractors, vendors).
- Communicate project needs, objectives, activities, and actionable deliverables.
- Schedule and facilitate project meetings.
Reporting & Analysis
- Consolidate and analyze projects data to support effective decision making, on a timely basis.
- Regularly generate and communicate project summary, financials, status, and highlight issues to senior leadership and management.
- Provide advice on interpretation of project teams’ challenges.
Risk & Issue Management
- Monitor timing of critical milestones, roadblocks, quality control and post project review tracking and reporting.
- Enable resolution of issues, risks, and project roadblocks.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience as a Project Manager required; preferably working in a structured PMO and technical environment.
- Minimum 5 years of technical leadership experience required ideally from a construction or engineering background.
- Experience in leading enterprise level or large-scale projects or programs involving multiple business teams.
- Experience in a manufacturing or supply chain environment would be an asset.
- Bachelors or master’s degree with a STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math).
- MBA would be an asset.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required or equivalent certifications
- Lean Six Sigma Black belt certification preferred.
- Bilingualism would be an asset
- Proven track record of having managed large (5M 50M) cross-functional projects successfully.
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and must be able to switch from one project to another seamlessly.
- Ability to influence positively in high profile projects.
- High level of energy, drive, passion, motivation, enthusiasm and flexibility in driving initiatives and projects forward in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled at collaborating across teams and stakeholders in the development of a comprehensive project plan that defines critical program factors such as program objectives and goals, program resources and org chart, budget, success criteria, program management and execution approach, communication planning, issue / risk / escalation planning.
- Knowledge of budgeting process with a strong understanding of project costs, tracking actuals, projecting forecasts, reporting, and talking through project financials.
- Solid understanding of project management techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
- PMI, PRINCE2 or another industry-recognized project management accreditation would be considered an asset.
