The Opportunity The Legal Services Department provides timely and comprehensive legal advice to City Council, the CAO and City staff, and provides a full range of legal services to the Corporation, its boards and agencies.
It also provides guidance on insurance administration and risk management. This department provides professional execution of the City's real estate program including acquisition, disposition, leasing and encroachments.
The department strives to ensure that every measure is taken to provide a cost effective, high quality standard of service.
Under the general guidance and direction of the Section Supervisor, the Legal Services Assistant is responsible for providing a complete range of clerical services and customer services to the Department.
Specifically, this position performs confidential and non-confidential duties and responsibilities associated with administration & customer service, information management & privacy, payroll & financial duties.
Overall, this position plays an integral role in ensuring the consistent delivery of the Departmental clerical support services to enable comprehensive delivery of services to the residents and customers of the City of Barrie.

Education (degree / diploma / certifications)
One (1) year College Certificate in Office Administration or related discipline

Experience
Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge / Skill / Ability
- General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements : Employment Standards Act (ESA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA)
- General knowledge of the following : municipal, regional, provincial, and federal government services, programs, and initiatives
- Working knowledge of the following : customer service and public relations principles, standards, and techniques, administrative, clerical, and payroll processes and procedures, records management practices, procurement practices, and general office equipment operation
- Working knowledge of cash handling and management practices
- Demonstrated ability to : Work independently, as well as in a team environment.Work under pressure to meet deadlines and peak period workloads.
Interact professionally, effectively, and courteously with all levels of staff and contacts in a political and customer service environment.
Keyboarding at a speed of 50 wpm

- Intermediate computer literacy using the following systems and software : Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint), SAP, Tab Fusion, Internet, Adobe Acrobat, Legistar, Teraview and e-Core
- Availability to accommodate deadlines or peak period workloads that may extend beyond designated normal workday hours or normal hours per week.
