RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre.
Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.
The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
Under the supervision of the unit director and in collaboration with the management committee, the incumbent will be in charge of developing and managing a new translational unit aiming at accelerating research discovery, validation, clinical trial and implementation of circulating free nucleic acids (cfDNA / cfRNA) cancer biomarkers.
The objectives of this unit are :
1-To provide access to the latest technologies, expertise and highly qualified personnel,
2-To develop liquid biopsy-based cancer biomarkers for risk assessment, screening, diagnosis, prognosis, prediction of response to treatment, minimum residual disease and progression,
3-To accelerate translation and approval of liquid biopsy biomarkers in clinical settings,
4-To support patient-stratification strategies for clinical trials.
The incumbent will oversee the day to day activities of the unit, provide strategic and scientific advices on projects and play a leadership role to manage all aspects of the unit (finance, administration, policies, protocols, communication, operations, supervision of personnel, logistics, grants, etc).
General Duties
- Develop and coordinate unit services, activities, operations and logistics,
- Supervise administrative and technical staff,
- Stay informed and advice about the latest biomarkers scientific and technologic advances,
- Establish partnerships with various basic and clinical research teams,
- Provide scientific input for projects development, grant applications, presentations and publications,
- Coordinate, organize and lead meetings, workshop and trainings,
- Troubleshoot technical problems, propose creative solutions, provide alternatives,
- Responsible for communication and reporting,
- Support administrative tasks for the unit,
- Write scientific papers, protocols and grant applications related to the unit,
- Comply with RI-MUHC / MUHC rules, policies and guidelines.

Education / Experience
Education : Doctorate Degree
- Field of Study : Biology, Biochemistry, Experimental Medicine, or related field,
- Other education considered an asset for this position : management, business, administration, leadership, medical / scientific writing, clinical research certification
Work Experience :
- Minimum of 3 years in a manager position with supervisor experience,
- Research Expertise in cancer biomarkers and / or liquid biopsies methodologies represent an asset.
Required Skills
- Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to work independently and with teams with minimum supervision.
