Job purpose

As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, your primary role is to ensure the organization's compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.

Your purpose is to safeguard the well-being of employees, visitors, and contractors by implementing effective EHS programs and initiatives.

Your aim is to minimize workplace accidents, mitigate environmental impact, and promote sustainable practices, thereby fostering a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace for all stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows :

  • Developing, implementing, and managing environmental health and safety programs
  • Serve as an expert witness in environmental health and safety cases.
  • Perform environmental monitoring and interpret data, prepare written reports, documenting testing methodology, observations, results and recommendations.
  • Conduct internal health / safety and environmental inspections and audits as prescribed and follow up with the required corrective actions.
  • Conducts orientation with new employees on all health, safety, and environmental compliance. Administer all environmental, health and safety compliance policies and programs, including the regular maintenance of environmental, health and safety Key Measurable Indicators and the related reports.
  • Develop training content and conduct training on various environmental, health and safety topics for employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Ensures plant safety rules are effectively implemented, housekeeping standards are followed and required personal protective equipment is used.
  • Responsible for Daily, Monthly and Annual Inspections to ensure workplace compliance.
  • Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee; encourage worker input and involvement in a meaningful manner.
  • Respond to EHS related and non-compliance issues or concerns from employees or management.
  • Review all accident and incident investigation reports and make suggestions to prevent reoccurrence and assist in the development of corrective actions.
  • Maintain MSDS documentation for all sites.
  • Responsible for maintaining the documentation and paperwork of any EHS Related activities.
  • Comply with all the guidelines prescribed by OHSA and review and understand environmental law.
  • Serve as a Fire Safety Team Member.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow ood anufacturing ractices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental / Health Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of Environmental and Safety experience
  • Understanding of OH&S Act and Regulations (Ont. Reg. 851 Industrial Establishments) and Environmental Compliance (EASR, ESDM, NPRI, E2 & RPRA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
