3GA Marine is a partnership of Marine Professionals providing services in Engineering, Project Support, Surveying and Consulting to the Canadian marine industry.

We have offices in Victoria and Vancouver (Burnaby). We are a full-service Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering company where clients are provided with turn-key solutions and support throughout the lifecycle of their vessels.

3GA develops engineered solutions for new vessel design and vessel refits from concept through to implementation. Projects vary in complexity and size from small equipment installations to whole vessel detail designs.

Role Overview :

As a Mechanical Marine Engineer, you’ll bridge the gap between land-based mechanical systems and the challenges of the open sea.

Your expertise will be essential in designing, maintaining, and improving marine vessels, equipment, and infrastructure.

Whether it’s optimizing propulsion systems or ensuring seaworthiness, you’ll play a pivotal role in maritime projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop mechanical systems for marine applications.
  • Create prototypes and conduct feasibility studies for innovative marine technologies.
  • Manage engineering projects related to marine vessels, ensuring they meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Evaluate structural components of vessels.
  • Implement safety measures to withstand harsh marine environments.
  • Analyze and improve propulsion systems (diesel engines, gas turbines, electric drives) for efficiency and reliability.
  • Consider fuel consumption, emissions, and performance.
  • Apply principles of fluid dynamics to optimize hull design, stability, and maneuverability.
  • Experience with balance durability, weight, and cost.
  • Address environmental concerns related to marine engineering (e.g., ballast water treatment, emissions reduction).
  • Oversee maintenance schedules for marine equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Work closely with naval architects, marine surveyors, and other engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years in mechanical marine engineering.
  • Hold a Professional Engineers License to practice in British Columbia.
  • Software Skills : Proficiency in engineering design software (AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, SOLIDWORKS) and maritime-specific tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
