Outreach & Community Engagement

The Community Engagement Coordinator will lead outreach and engagement activities to raise awareness about Earthwise Society in the community and provide administrative support services to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization.

Duties and responsibilities :

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Goal : Advance the society’s profile in the community and increase active engagement

  • In consultation with Executive Director, develop and implement outreach and marketing plans to raise organizational profile
  • Plan and implement community events and fundraising activities including annual 100 Mile Banquet or other field to table events
  • Grow and strengthen community networks, build partnerships
  • Deliver presentations for community and outreach events
  • Increase revenue streams from events and community engagement, including donations, sponsorship and fundraising activities
  • Diversify and increase use of site resources for venue rentals, corporate work parties, art, yoga, and other community activities
  • Increase volunteer retention, engage volunteers for event planning and implementation
  • Conduct membership drives, maintain up-to-date membership lists, handle renewals
  • Support human resources functions including assisting with hiring, staff engagement and retention

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

Goal : Support organizational functioning of Society

  • Provide general administrative support and assist with basic bookkeeping for accounts payable / receivable and payroll, including CRA payments, T4s and ROEs
  • Support tracking and reconciliation of sales
  • Assist with grants, claims, and reports to funders
  • Provide support for use of existing computer technology

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in a related field such as communications and marketing, business or non-profit management and / or environmental studies, land and food systems, etc.
  • Proven experience in community outreach and engagement, program implementation, or similar roles, with a track record of successfully implementing expanding community programs
  • Experience in planning and executing community engagement and fundraising events, including community festivals and dinners
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively deliver presentations and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Networking savvy, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with community organizations and stakeholders
  • Familiarity or experience with gardening, therapeutic horticulture, environmental issues, or food security is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising strategies and experience in securing donations and sponsorships
  • Experience in recruiting, engaging and managing volunteers

Terms :

This is a full-time position 35 hours per week from April - November 2024, (exact dates to be determined) paid at the rate of $24 / hour.

This position includes a combination of on-site and remote work. The position may be extended or renewed based on a performance review and the continued availability of funding.
