Project Manager/ Estimator

Dexter Construction, a division of The Municipal Group of Companies, is currently seeking the knowledge and expertise of a Project Manager/ Estimator.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Prepare cost estimates for construction projects.
2. Prepare public and private tender packages for review and submittal.
3. Document equipment and manpower requirements, and review the estimate for completeness of take-off, scope, and pricing.
4. Prepare schedules and job hand-off for packages for awarded works.
5. Project execution team support including subcontractor coordination, site meetings, scheduling, and contract administration.
6. Provide necessary documents to field superintendents, foremen, and Project Coordinators in a timely manner and follow up on all open action items.
7. Provide on-going support to field personnel to help identify and remove obstacles that impact construction progress, resolve challenges with respective owners, and identify and implement profit improvement strategies as needed.
8. Liaise actively with project delivery teams to identify, develop, and submit change orders.
9. Develop, maintain, and regularly review up-to-date project progress information, including Critical Path scheduling, work in progress reports, and analysis of all job costs.
10. Oversee control of project cost by development of project budget with the estimator.
11. Read blueprints to estimate project cost effectively.
12. Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of construction needs, budgeting, and evaluation of possible bids.
13. Review project job cost reports regularly and ensure project profitability.
14. Review time sheets, all purchase orders, delivery tickets, subcontractor requisitions, and invoices to ensure that they are coded correctly for project costing.
15. Visit project sites daily for troubleshooting and for the purposes of ensuring project quality.
16. Initiate and review regular project billing.
17. Be responsible for the overall safety of all manpower working on the contract, proactively support the corporate safety program, and set a positive example.
18. Develop, chair, and initiate all job closeout activities, including preparation of as-built drawings, retaining release from subcontractors, ensuring warranty information provided to owner, final payment quantities, and payment and recovery of holdback.
19. Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

1. University degree in Civil or Resource Engineering, or other related discipline is an asset.
2. 2-5 years of similar experience preferred.
3. Previous experience estimating public and private tenders an asset along with experience managing projects.
4. Previous experience in heavy civil construction an asset.
5. Knowledge of various estimating and construction software including Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Excel, etc. is an asset.
6. Ability to work as part of an estimating/construction team.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
8. Professional attitude, punctual, assertive, and personable.
9. High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
10. Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency.

Working Conditions:

1. Required to work long office hours and use a computer. Field work and company site visits will frequently be required, and will require the use of minimum PPE (Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, reflective vest, etc.).
2. Other PPE might also be necessary and will be driven by the environment of the work sites (specialized PPE, Gas monitors, Fall Arrest, and Breathing Apparatus).
3. Other travel on behalf of the company may be necessary to represent the Company or Project.
