Mechanical Designer

Our client is an engineer-to-order company that specializes in designing and manufacturing rotating equipment for industries like wire and cable, umbilical, flexible pipe, and hose manufacturing.

They provide customized, application-specific machinery to meet the diverse needs of their clients, covering the full spectrum of rotating equipment.

Position Overview :

As a Mechanical Designer, you will report to the Engineering Manager and contribute to designing advanced cable manufacturing machinery.

Working in a collaborative environment, you'll engage in cross-functional projects with engineering and production teams.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and development of cable manufacturing systems
  • Perform technical calculations (e.g., speed and torque ratios, power consumption, stress analysis)
  • Design machine components, select materials, determine manufacturing methods, and manage assembly sequencing
  • Generate and maintain project documentation, including BOMs, engineering drawings, and technical reports
  • Standardize parts and sub-assemblies across product lines
  • Participate in special projects as needed

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in mechanical design and industrial equipment development
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics, dynamics, and material science
  • Experience with FEA for structural analysis
  • Knowledge of North American engineering standards and design codes
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks PDM)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and fastening
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail, integrity, and a passion for excellence

Preferred Skills :

  • Experience in cable manufacturing or rotary equipment
  • Knowledge of DFMA principles and engineering documentation control
  • Hands-on experience with industrial machinery assembly and machine shop operations
