Casual Trades Worker – Carpenter

This is a skilled position, involving the construction, altering, maintenance, and repairing of structures, furnishings, cabinets, and equipment;

applying standard construction technique and performing other related duties which contributes to the efficient operation of the maintenance for Housing Services.

Duties will include but not limited to :

• Installation or repairs to siding, doors, and windows;
• Construct and / or repair outside structures such as sheds, steps, sidewalks, etc;
• Locksmith duties, repair and replace lock sets, maintain key data base;
• Removal and installation of flooring;
• Work from ladders and scaffolds installing windows, ceiling tiles, roof and eaves trough repairs;
• Repair and replace counter tops; lift and reset toilets; working in crawl spaces;
• Be familiar with, and implement, all aspects of work site safety procedures;
• Identify and complete preventative maintenance of buildings, furnishings, tables, chairs, etc;
• Consult with tenants to arrange for most appropriate time for completing work assignments;
• Perform general housekeeping of maintenance work and storage areas;
• Maintain and safeguard all tools and equipment;
• Assist in the specifications of work requirements for major renovation of units / buildings;
• Complete specification of work requirements for major renovation of units / buildings;
• Complete estimates of time and materials required for job assignments and keep accurate records;
• Dispose of debris where necessary, unload pallets of supplies;
• Assist other trades with assigned duties, i.e. plumber, electrician or other staff;
• Provide after hours emergency coverage on a stand by-basis;
• Other duties as required in the course of building repairs and maintenance.
