Technical Proposal Writer

Position Summary
The Technical Proposal Writer is responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining clear, concise, and accurate technical documents related to construction projects.
This includes project documentation, user manuals, operating procedures, technical reports specifications and proposals.
The role requires collaboration with engineers, estimators, project managers, and other construction professionals to gather information and ensure the accuracy and clarity of the documents.
The Technical Proposal Writer must ensure that the documentation complies with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and a detail-oriented individual with excellent problem-solving skills and a solutions-oriented drive for process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and update technical documentation such as project manuals, operating procedures, technical specifications, proposals, and safety manuals.
- Collaborate with engineers, estimators, project managers and other subject matter experts to gather information and verify the accuracy of the content.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language for various audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Create and maintain project documentation including project plans, timelines, reports, and compliance documents.
- Review and edit materials prepared by other team members to ensure consistency, clarity, and technical accuracy.
- Ensure all documentation complies with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Work with other CWCI teams to create diagrams, illustrations, and flowcharts to accompany documentation.
- Manage the version control of documents and ensure timely updates as project details evolve.
- Maintain a repository of standard templates and content for recurring projects or procedures.
- Conduct quality assurance on all technical documents to ensure they meet client expectations and industry standards.
- Support other Colas Western Canadian teams with their communication needs.
Technical Writing / Coordination Tasks
- Understand and fulfill successful construction proposal organization and writing requirements
- Document Control) Responsible for gathering and organizing proposal documentation from divisions (resumes, work experience etc.)
- Responsible for collaborating with project teams (estimator, project managers) to gather pertinent project information in order to write successful proposals
- Must be able to take technical details and edit into clear and precise documentation
- Keep up with bids and tenders and responsible for communication surrounding results
- Involved in customer feedback meetings on proposals
- Involved in executive (COMI / COMA) document development with project teams
- Work with divisions to develop other sales documentation to sell products and services
- Liaison with other Colas committees and teams
Non-Technical Communication / Coordination :
- Advise / Edit on all CWCI external and internal communication (Executive team, HR, Finance etc.)
- Create marketing content and potentially manage website
- Responsible for organizing Net Promoter Score survey results and setting up any feedback meetings
- Develop and manage CWCI SharePoint (training provided)
- Newsletter coordination and creation
- CWCI external content coordination (pictures, posts, social media etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field.
- Certification in Technical Writing and / or proven experience as a technical writer in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction terminology, methods, and industry standards.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other documentation software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Sharepoint,).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with construction regulations, safety standards, and compliance documentation.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) and version control practices is a plus.
- Experience working on large-scale construction projects.
