Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for theterm (up to 12 months) position of Program Coordinator with Halifax Transit.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Programs & Engagement, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, delivery, and management of sustainable transportation programs and initiatives for employers, government, educational institutions, community organizations, and other targeted groups.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Program Coordinator implements programs that are critical to influencing behaviour choices and increasing the use of more sustainable modes of transportation, including but not limited to transit, active transportation, and carpooling.
The Program Coordinator is expected to excel in communications, relationship building and program administration and provides leadership in building strategic partnerships to support corporate and departmental initiatives.
- Conducts ongoing jurisdictional and market scans for sustainable transportation initiatives including best practices, governance models, and trends;
- Builds and sustains relationships with a variety of organizations, including employers, universities, business associations, community groups, institutions, targeted neighbourhoods / communities to develop programs and initiatives, as identified by Halifax Transit.
- Takes responsibility for the development, implementation, delivery, and monitoring of programs and initiatives, which could include but is not limited to the Rural Transit Funding Program, Affordable Access Transit Pass Program, Department of Community Services Pass Program, UPass Program, Smart Trip Program, Discounted Fares Program, Accessible Taxi Program, and Student Transit Pass Program.
- Conducts research and develops surveys to acquire information to introduce appropriate sustainable transportation options to stakeholders.
- Effectively uses presentation, facilitation, mediation, and negotiation skills to encourage use of sustainable transportation and influence behaviour choices.
- Negotiates contracts and agreements with stakeholders which includes assisting in setting program parameters and associated fees.
- Develops and implements creative programs and education projects such as contests and awareness programs to encourage behavioural change.
- Develops educational materials, public education and promotional events, and programs to support program objectives.
- Coordinates and attends display booths at special events when required.
- Prepares, analyzes, and evaluates reports (including Council reports) on various sustainable transportation related topics.
- Develops and maintains performance measures to evaluate the success of transit programs and initiatives.
- Proactive approach in identifying and resolving project challenges;
- Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education & Experience :
- Undergraduate degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Public Relations, Communications, Business, Community or other relevant degree.
- Three years of related experience in the field of sustainable transportation / transit planning, and / or coordinating or administering programs for a wide variety of stakeholders.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities :
- Knowledge of sustainable transportation choices and benefits.
- Ability to prepare written materials for a wide variety of purposes.
- Ability to adapt information and communication to a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of reading comprehension including the ability to review technical documents.
- Demonstrated creative skills to develop educational and promotional materials and encourage behavioural change.
- Strong ability to plan, organize work, and communicate with others.
Security Clearance Requirements : Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note - Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
Candidates who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS : Term, Full-Time
HOURS OF WORK : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00am - 4 : 00pm. Additional hours may be required because of project schedules, including attendance at evening public meetings.
SALARY : Level 8, $38.48 per hour, as per the NSGEU Local 222 Collective Agreement.
WORK LOCATION : TD Building, 12th Floor, Barrington Street, Halifax.
