Job description

Overview

Qualifications

FM is a leading property insurer of the world's largest businesses, providing more than one-third of FORTUNE 1000-size companies with engineering-based risk management and property insurance solutions. FM helps clients maintain continuity in their business operations by drawing upon state-of-the-art loss-prevention engineering and research; risk management skills and support services; tailored risk transfer capabilities; and superior financial strength. To do so, we rely on a dynamic, culturally diverse group of employees, working in more than 100 countries, in a variety of challenging roles.

The Consultant Engineer assists policyholders in physically protecting their large industrial and commercial properties against fire, explosion, earthquake, collapse, windstorm, mechanical and electrical breakdown, and many other hazards. He or she works with clients to develop sound loss prevention solutions to manage any exposures and, once the solution is agreed, helps manage the project through to completion. To stay abreast of new developments, the consultant engineer is provided with frequent technical training that involves independent and classroom study. Candidates can expect constant challenge, professional growth, and personal responsibility.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct on site loss prevention evaluations that identify all reasonably foreseeable physical and human element exposures.
  • Accurately quantify exposures at client locations to assure that the Account Team places an appropriate level of attention on the exposure.
  • Obtain local client understanding and agreement on the hazards / exposures discovered and their potential business impact.
  • Assist with effectively managing change at client locations.
  • Achieve practical, effective on-site risk improvement at client locations.
  • Develop ability to illustrate the value-added differential of FM Global engineering capabilities.
  • Accurately communicate the risk and associated data.
  • The candidate will be working with minimal supervision, conducting office responsibilities from a home office, working independently as well as being a member of a team. He or she will be traveling routinely; via a company provided vehicle, to clients' facilities.
  • Skills and competencies

Can use current technology including software products to analyze and document engineering recommendations and services.

Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Must be bilingual – French and English.

Ability to effectively convey ideas to individuals and groups, including executives, plant managers, engineers and technical personnel.

Attention to detail, making engineering judgements, accommodating both internal and external customers' needs.

Efficient time management with minimal supervision.

Hold a valid driver’s license and be allowed to travel to the United States.

Must reside in the Maritimes. Relocation program is available.

    Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Member of Ordre des ingénieur(e)s du Québec (OIQ) or any other provincial and territorial engineering regulators in Canada.

    Experience

A minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering, preferably within the Pulp & Paper industries or high challenge industries. Experience in consulting engineering, fire protection or insurance would be an asset.

We offer our employees a wide range of benefits including career long learning opportunities, tuition reimbursement, RRSP / DPSP, pension, flexible schedules, rich health and well-being programs, generous time off allowances, volunteer days and so much more!

FM is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse workforce.
