You as an Environmental Specialist will :
- Promote, implement and provide leadership on EllisDon’s HSE policies, practices and procedures.
- Report to senior leadership on areas of environmental risk due to construction operations
- Develop risk mitigation strategies for construction operations
- Working with and managing multi-disciplinary environmental teams, including internal project resources and external consultants, in managing the impacts of the works and achieving deliverables.
- Act as a resource for on-site HSE Coordinators
- Assist PMs and Superintendents with preparation of site specific Environmental Management Plans
- Review of background and technical documents (including environmental reports, legislation and contract documents) for proposals
- Preparation of documentation required for permit applications (drawings, operations plans, corporate / legal documents)
- Review and provide input on scope of work and contractual documents
- Proactively identify changes in legislation regulation that may or will affect operations
- Review background and technical documents in preparation of proposals.
- Interprets technical reports and provide environmental expertise on implications of these conditions on construction operations
- Assist site teams on completing required reporting requirements in event of environmental incidents and follow-up investigations and root cause analysis
- Act as a technical resource for legal department in the event of fines orders or claims
- Conduct fieldwork for inspections, sampling or other similar tasks.
Is this the right role for you?
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and experience working with regulatory agencies / conservation authorities in obtaining approvals and maintaining compliance.
- Knowledge of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and associated treatment is an asset
- Knowledge and experience with a broad range of environmental aspects, risks and control measures associated with civil and infrastructure construction projects in and around sensitive areas
- Certified Inspector of Erosion and Sediment Control would be an asset
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a construction environment
- Ability to work in Cold Lake, Alberta.
