Job Description
The Precast Concrete Quality Inspector ensures that all precast concrete segments are produced, tested, and documented according to project quality standards. The role involves witnessing dimensional checks, material testing, and formwork inspections, as well as reviewing concrete test reports, curing records, and production documentation. The inspector verifies segment storage and release conditions, coordinates QA sampling, reports any non‑conformities, and issues a weekly summary of QC activities.
The salary range for this role is $80,000 CAD - $100,000 CAD, plus additional benefits.
Key Responsibilities :
Precast Elements Quality Control
- Conduct random dimensional inspections on a minimum of three precast segments per week, witnessing and verifying the manufacturer’s measurement controls.
- Observe and document the manufacturer’s quality control inspections on completed segments.
- Witness dimensional verification of formwork prior to production.
- Monitor, document, and report segment repairs in a consistent and systematic manner.
- Review all 3D measurement checks performed during production on moulds and / or segments.
Concrete and Materials Sampling and Testing
Witness random quality control sampling and testing of concrete during production.Observe QC sampling and testing of aggregate gradation, bolt anchor inserts and associated hardware, grout socket systems, dowels, guiding rods, gaskets, steel fibres, curing processes, stripping operations, and other relevant materials.Review concrete test reports, curing temperature charts, and batch reports—including component weights—prior to their final issuance.Perform bi‑weekly QA sampling and testing of concrete and coordinate delivery of samples to the designated third‑party laboratory.Production Reporting and Coordination
Review weekly segment production dockets and reports for accuracy prior to issuance.Inspect precast segment storage conditions to ensure compliance before delivery to site.Verify segment release and shipment readiness using the project’s traceability / tracking system, ensuring all associated documentation is complete and available.Report any deviations from approved procedures not previously documented by the manufacturer.Prepare and issue a weekly production report summarizing QC activities and observations.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.Relevant industry certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, Grade I, or an equivalent credential.Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in concrete quality control, testing, and / or inspection.Strong familiarity with precast concrete production processes and associated quality control practices.Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and blueprints.Knowledge of CSA, PCI, or comparable industry standards (considered an asset).Understanding of concrete mix designs, sieve analysis, and related material testing methodologies (asset).Exceptional attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities in fast‑paced environments.Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.Experience with 3D scanning technologies and associated software (e.g., Autodesk Recap, FARO Scene) for assessing underground concrete elements is an asset.Additional Information
