Could you be the full-time Onboard Mechanical Technician in Whitby, ON, we’re looking for?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your mechanical expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside skilled and collaborative teammates.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring and performing the installation, wiring test, and resolution of electrical faults in both high and low-voltage systems, contributing to the transformation of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) transit system. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (installation supervisors, project site managers, and design teams), ensure compliance with safety standards, and provide proactive suggestions for process improvements, and much more.
You’ll specifically take care of maintaining updated electrical schematics and troubleshooting electrical faults, but also contribute to the development of test plans to validate system modifications.
We’ll look to you for :
- Strict adherence to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) procedures and policies
- Confirming installation readiness and ensuring activities are performed without deviations
- Perform mechanical installations and retrofits on rail vehicles, including brackets, piping, enclosures, and structural components
- Support integration of onboard systems by preparing mechanical interfaces and ensuring alignment with engineering specifications
- Conduct inspections and adjustments to ensure proper fitment and function of mechanical assemblies
- Use precision tools, jigs, and fixtures to ensure consistent and repeatable installations across fleet units
- Operate and maintain various power tools, with a focus on various precision cutting of metal pipes for welding preparation
- Ensuring compliance with design documentation and supervisor instructions
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including measurements, torque values, and component configurations
- Reporting risks, deviations, or issues that may impact safety, quality, or performance
- Using APSYS (Alstom Performance System) tools or templates for continuous improvement

Technical High-School DiplomaExperience in railway, transit, or heavy vehicle mechanical systems preferredFamiliarity with mechanical standards such as AAR, EN12663, and IEC 61373 is an assetExperience in Special Processes such as Riveting, Torque Tightening (Welding is a plus)Experience with pneumatic systems, brake valves, and pressure switchesUnderstanding of railway maintenance facilities, rolling stock assembly, or similar industrial settingsKnowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols, including Lockout / Tagout (LOTO)Skilled trade certification from Ontario (desirable)Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teamsThings you’ll enjoy
