Backed by a leading private equity firm, our client is an established energy services business looking for a dynamic CFO.

The preferred candidate will be a CPA, CA, be hands-on, enjoys mentoring and developing others, and have experience working in an entrepreneurial environment with a small team.

This role is On-Site in Vaughan.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will operate as part of the executive leadership team to build a strong partnership with all parts of the Company.

The CFO will develop and execute the vision for the Finance team to provide Financial Reporting, Treasury, Tax, Planning and Performance Measurement functions in alignment with the overall business strategy.

Responsibilities include :

Financial Reporting

  • Lead the financial reporting processes to ensure accounting policies are appropriate and there is an effective system of internal control.
  • Lead process improvements and change management initiatives to support the vision for Finance as a valued partner to other departments.
  • Ensure the monthly reporting is streamlined to provide timely financial reporting for management and board meetings.

Treasury

  • Ensure timely cash flow forecasts to management and the board.
  • Ensure cash management processes support business growth and liquidity.
  • Ensure timely debt reporting to lenders.
  • Identify and implement capital (debt and equity) optimization opportunities.
  • Ensure timely compliance with legal obligations for income tax and HST.
  • Identify and implement approved opportunities to optimize tax obligations.

Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting processes to reflect corporate strategy.
  • Track, analyze and report to management and the board on progress against budget.
  • Prepare timely forecasts of performance expectations and identify areas for follow-up.

Performance Measurement

  • Lead the reporting of business financial measures and KPIs (i.e. business lines, EBITDA, margins, expense ratios, ROE, ROA, liquidity, working capital, inventory turnover, asset turnover, revenue, and cost per employee).
  • Identify and implement new appropriate performance metrics.
  • Lead and report on business profitability analysis and KPIs.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of technical financial acumen in accounting, reporting, and financial management having trained as a CPA, CA with one of the public accounting firms.
  • A minimum of 5 years of executive experience having led a team. A track record of mentoring and coaching others to develop a high-performing team.
  • Open to most industry backgrounds with a preference for someone coming from the energy or related sector.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise with ASPE / IFRS experience.
