What we are looking for :

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments and engaging in the various treatment modalities provided in this acute, active Inpatient Mental Health Unit which is a Schedule 1 facility.

As a Nurse in this progressive interprofessional environment, you will utilize your skills in assessment and supportive counseling with a diverse patient population.

What you bring to the role :

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses
  • Current BCLS certification
  • A minimum of 2 years of recent acute psychiatric nursing experience
  • Completion of Medication Administration certification
  • Completion of Physical Assessment certification with proven excellent physical assessment skills
  • Completion of a psychiatric / mental health certificate
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Protection Act
  • Mental Health Assessment course is preferred
  • RPNAO membership is preferred
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a patient / family centred care environment
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
  • Well developed organization, communication, interpersonal and teaching skills
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, continuing education and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Work Schedule :

Candidates must be available to work a variety of 8 (0730-1530, 1530-2330) and 12 (0730-1930, 1930-0730) hour shifts on weekdays and weekends.

Please note schedules may change due to operational needs.

Compensation

BAND- CU10 : $34.70 - $35.97
