Reportingto the Vice President of Bids and Proposals the Chief Estimator isfully responsible for leading a group ofestimators.

Theyare responsible for making estimates for proposals bids and projects inprogress (when requested by operations). Furthermore they areresponsible for ensuring that the estimators in their groupcomplete the bids they are working on by the date required formanagementreview.

WorkResponsibilities andDuties :

Operationalmanagement

  • Superviseestimators
  • Implement revise andupdate databanks
  • Managebid priorities by considering the divisions strategicdirection
  • Establishthe biddingschedule
  • Assessworkload
  • Identifythe risks and constraints of the call fortenders
  • Definethe subcontractingstrategy
  • Confirmcosts related to quantities prepared byestimators
  • Leadthe file transfer meeting to operations when the contract isobtained
  • Preparethe bidreview
  • Establishlasting contacts with subcontractors andsuppliers
  • Participatein meetings for the startup of service offers and followupexecutivemeetings
  • Liaisecommunicate and meet deadlines amongstakeholders
  • Ensurethe quality ofbids
  • Ensurecompliance with ISOprocesses
  • Participatein the closing ofbids
  • Beaware of upcoming projects to plan theworkload

Requirements

  • Holda bachelors degree in civil or construction engineering and / or acombination of equivalent experience &training.
  • Bea member of the Association of Professional Engineers andGeoscientists ofBC.
  • Havea minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in estimating majorprojects and / or urbanworks.
  • Strongcommunicationskills.
  • Haverelevant experience in carrying out largescale projects of morethan $30million.

SKILLSAND ATTITUDESREQUIRED

  • Abilityto demonstrate initiative andleadership.
  • Havean interest and ability to mentor and coachothers.
  • Abilityto manage more than one project at atime.
  • Senseofpriorities.
  • Proficiencyin MS Office MS Project and TPL or other estimation software (agreatasset).

Hold a bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineeringand / or a combination of equivalent experience & training. Be amember of the Association of Professional Engineers andGeoscientists of BC.
