Job description

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Concord/Vaughan
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

For over 50 years, our client has been a globally recognized leader and pioneer in the
manufacturing of premium equipment. Headquartered in Concord/Vaughan,
Ontario.
They are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join
Their engineering team and help shape the next generation of industrial manufacturing
machinery.

Position Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will apply advanced principles of mechanical
engineering, physics, and material science to lead the development, design, analysis, and
optimization of complex industrial machinery. This role involves taking ownership of large-scale
machinery projects—from initial concept and custom customer specifications through to
manufacturing support and final commissioning.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, PLC
technicians, the manufacturing machine shop, and our proprietary aluminum alloy foundry,
ensuring our equipment remains the most robust and innovative on the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Custom Machinery Design: Conceptualize, design, and detail heavy industrial automated machinery.
  • Engineering Analysis: Conduct mechanical calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for stress, thermal management, and plastic melt-flow characteristics.
  • Product Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives for patented technologies.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and review high-quality 3D CAD models, assembly
drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing/fabrication schematics using
standard geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with electrical engineers and automation/PLC
technicians to smoothly integrate mechanical designs with complex control systems.
  • Manufacturing; Shop Support: Collaborate with on-site machinists, assembly
technicians, and the foundry to troubleshoot build issues, optimize designs for
    manufacturing (DFM), and streamline assembly.
  • Project Leadership: Act as a technical lead on major client projects, mentoring
intermediate/junior engineers and ensuring engineering timelines and budgets are met.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering
discipline. A registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation with PEO is highly
    desirable.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7–10+ years of progressive experience in the mechanical
design of custom industrial automation, heavy machinery, or rotating equipment.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong background in plastic extrusion technology, blow
molding, vacuum forming, or heavy tooling/die manufacturing is a major asset.
  • CAD Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (such as
SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Solid Edge) and PLM/PDM data management
    systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Hands-on experience executing FEA and thermal/fluid analysis on
    structural and moving machine elements.
  • Manufacturing Acumen: Solid understanding of machining processes, welding
fabrication, metallurgy, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.

Key Competencies

  • Problem-Solving: Exceptionally strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex electromechanical issues.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both clients and shop-floor personnel.
  • Adaptability: Proven resilience and flexibility when managing shifting priorities in a high-mix, custom-engineered product environment.
  • Team Leadership: Natural ability to mentor junior staff and champion high engineering standards.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits package (including Extended Health, Dental, and Vision care).
  • Life insurance and Company RRSP matching program.
  • Paid time off and organized company events.
  • A collaborative, family-owned culture with deep roots in global technological excellence.
