Job description

My client is a Canadian environmental consulting firm seeking a versatile Reclamation Specialist to support mine reclamation, closure, permitting, and environmental assessment projects. This is a hands-on role for someone who can contribute across technical delivery, field programs, data and GIS, reporting, and project coordination rather than working within one narrow discipline.

The successful candidate may bring a background in vegetation, soils, wildlife, wetlands, ecology, or another reclamation-related field. More important is the ability to apply that expertise to regulated reclamation and closure work. Direct mining experience is strongly preferred.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid: 100% Remote (anywhere in Canada)

Travel: <5%

Salary: $$90k - $140k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual performance bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)

What success will look like:

  • Produce practical, technically sound contributions to reclamation and closure plans, management plans, permitting documents, environmental assessments, and related regulatory deliverables.
  • Apply a core technical specialty, such as vegetation, soils, wildlife, wetlands, or ecology, within the broader requirements of mine reclamation and closure.
  • Move comfortably between office-based technical work and field assignments, including baseline surveys, monitoring, logistics, and data collection at remote sites.
  • Provide reliable project-management support by tracking scope, schedule, budget, actions, and deliverables across multiple assignments.
  • Analyze environmental and reclamation data, maintain defensible records, and use GIS to organize, integrate, review, and present project information.
  • Prepare clear reports, plans, proposals, cost estimates, and client-ready materials that meet project and regulatory requirements.
  • Become a trusted, adaptable contributor who can step into different project needs, collaborate across disciplines, and take ownership without requiring close supervision.

Core responsibilities:

  • Support reclamation and closure planning throughout the mine life cycle, from assessment and permitting through active operations, closure, and post-closure monitoring.
  • Contribute to reclamation and closure plans, management plans, environmental assessments, end-land-use planning, restoration strategies, and regulatory submissions.
  • Assist with reclamation liability estimates, work-package scoping, fee development, proposals, schedules, and project budgets.
  • Provide technical input within an area of expertise such as vegetation, soils, wildlife, wetlands, ecology, restoration, or land management.
  • Participate in workshops and engagement processes concerning closure objectives, end land use, reclamation outcomes, and restoration.
  • Design or support baseline and reclamation monitoring programs, undertake field surveys, coordinate logistics and crews, and maintain accurate field records.
  • Analyze and interpret environmental and reclamation data, including statistical comparisons and trend analysis for reclaimed landscapes and monitoring programs.
  • Develop, maintain, integrate, and QA/QC geospatial and field datasets using ArcGIS Pro or comparable GIS tools, ensuring data are suitable for project and regulatory use.
  • Support project managers with scope, schedule, budget, documentation, invoicing, subconsultant coordination, client communication, and milestone tracking.
  • Prepare technical reports, management plans, proposals, presentations, and other client or regulator-facing deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, technologists, Indigenous engagement professionals, clients, contractors, and field teams.

Requirements:

  • A degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, reclamation, geography, natural resource management, or a related field. A master’s degree is an asset.
  • Approximately five or more years of relevant experience in mine reclamation, mine closure planning, environmental consulting, or comparable regulated reclamation work.
  • Direct experience supporting reclamation or closure deliverables in mining is strongly preferred. Substantive oil and gas reclamation experience will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting or leading components of multidisciplinary projects, including scope, schedule, budget, coordination, and deliverable tracking.
  • Field experience and a willingness to travel occasionally to remote sites for multi-day assignments in variable weather and terrain.
  • Working knowledge of GIS, preferably ArcGIS Pro, including spatial-data management, integration, QA/QC, analysis, and map production.
  • Experience analyzing environmental data using Excel, R, or comparable tools.
  • Knowledge of British Columbia mine reclamation and closure requirements, including the Mines Act, the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia, and relevant environmental legislation.
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, with an applicable professional body such as P.Ag., P.Biol., RPBio, or EP.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence or provincial equivalent. CPESC or a related certification is an asset.
  • Must live in Canada.
