Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Electrical Project Engineer to serve as an owners representative on major infrastructure projects for a client of ours in the Vancouver area. This position will be the primary liaison between contractors, consultants, design teams, and the client for electrical related items. Conduct field inspections, review contractor work, investigate construction issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, and engineering standards. Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, and design changes, providing practical engineering solutions to support safe, efficient, and successful project delivery.

Responsibilities
-Act as the Owner’s representative on a complex wastewater treatment plant construction project, providing on-site oversight and coordinating with contractors, consultants, utilities, and project stakeholders to support safe and successful project delivery.
-Apply sound engineering judgment and a strong understanding of electrical systems, construction practices, and commissioning processes to support project objectives.
-Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, protection and control designs, shop drawings, and technical submittals to support construction, testing, energization, and commissioning activities.
-Provide field oversight for the installation, integration, and commissioning of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, standby power systems, grounding systems, and power distribution infrastructure, by supporting the resolution of technical, constructability, and system integration issues throughout construction
-Coordinate with BC Hydro, contractors, and project teams on utility interfaces, service connections, power outages, energization activities, and commissioning requirements.
-Monitor construction activities, inspect field installations, identify and help resolve technical and construction-related issues, and ensure work is performed in accordance with project requirements, design intent, specifications, codes, and applicable standards.
-Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, civil, structural, and commissioning personnel, to support project execution and system integration.
-Work effectively with both senior and junior team members, contributing technical expertise, fostering collaboration, and supporting knowledge transfer and professional development.
-Collect and communicate field information to support project reporting, issue resolution, risk mitigation, and informed decision-making.
-Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications
-A Bachelor of Applied Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Demonstration of competencies and a minimum of 4 years post-registration (P.Eng) experience; or Demonstration of competencies and minimum of 2 years’ post-registration (P.Eng) with a minimum of 8 years total of directly relevant engineering experience is required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
-Membership or eligibility for immediate membership as a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
-Ability to apply sound engineering judgment and a strong understanding of electrical systems, construction practices, and commissioning processes to support project objectives. Ability to act as a resource to staff and provide sound and practical guidance for unusual or problem situations.
-Ability to interpret and apply engineering and technical guidelines and principles related to area of specialization such as technical manuals, codes and regulations, contracting policies, safety regulations and corporate and board policies. Ability to adapt or adjust guidelines and procedures for unique or difficult situations.
-Proven contract administration and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize a complex series of project components for large complex projects to meet multiple time based deliverables requiring a high level of detail and accuracy. Ability to resolve problems within established guidelines and procedures; ability to use judgment to determine which methods are applicable in any given situation.
-Excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including letter, report writing and presentation skills. Ability to explain difficult concepts and persuades others to adopt a point of view or way of doing things.
-Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships with internal and external contacts under circumstances that are considerably complex and time sensitive. Skill in dealing openly, tactfully and sensitively in a variety of situations including dealings with the public, member municipalities, government agencies and contractors.
-Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented work environment and deal effectively with disagreements and prevent the escalation of conflict.
-Ability to supervise, coach and guide others while enhancing individual and team effectiveness. Ability to mentor and foster the development junior engineer, technical staff and direct reports as required.
-Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license.
