Why ENMAX?

We are driven by our purpose of lighting the way to a brighter energy future, a future that includes a workplace where you’ll experience belonging and unlock possibilities. We offer meaningful opportunities, strong collaboration and a career aligned to what matters to you. We’re proud of who we are and the work we do to support our communities and customers who depend on us, because at ENMAX, we’re lighting the way together.

We are looking for an ARS Compliance Specialist to support ENMAX Power Corporation's implementation and ongoing compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS). In this role, you will play a key part in helping the organization prepare for and adapt to Alberta's evolving reliability framework as AESO’s Sync-Up initiative introduces new and revised compliance obligations.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry partners, you will lead compliance readiness activities, coordinate implementation efforts, and help embed sustainable processes, controls, and programs that support long-term compliance. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys project management, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration, while contributing to the reliable and safe operation of Alberta's electricity system.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) compliance programs to ensure EPC meets all applicable regulatory, legal, and industry requirements.

  • Lead and support compliance-related projects and strategic initiatives, including the implementation of new and revised reliability standards arising from the AESO Sync-Up initiative and other regulatory changes.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve compliance programs, processes, controls, and governance practices that support sustained regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with EPC business units and subject matter experts to assess compliance impacts, establish accountabilities, and integrate regulatory requirements into operational processes.

  • Monitor regulatory developments, industry trends, and compliance risks, recommending and implementing program enhancements as required.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the AESO, MSA, auditors, industry working groups, and other market participants, representing EPC in compliance-related forums and engagements.

  • Coordinate and support audits, self-certifications, investigations, and compliance monitoring activities, including the preparation and maintenance of compliance evidence and documentation.

  • Conduct compliance assessments, root cause analyses, and corrective action activities to address compliance gaps and strengthen program effectiveness.

  • Provide compliance subject matter expertise, training, and stakeholder engagement to promote awareness, support project implementation, and ensure effective management of compliance obligations.

Education Required:

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Business or in a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education or experience in compliance and/or utility roles.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum five years previous applied experience in compliance/regulatory program development and implementation or utility experience.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance programs, governance frameworks, and compliance management principles, preferably within the electric utility industry.

  • Understanding of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS), ISO Rules, NERC Reliability Standards, electric utility operations, or similar regulatory environments.

  • Working knowledge of document management systems such as Infolink or similar systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action programs (asset)

Competencies:

  • Builds strong working relationships across business units and fosters cooperation to achieve compliance and organizational objectives.

  • Clearly conveys complex regulatory, technical, and business information to diverse audiences, adapting communication style to stakeholders, regulators, and leadership.

  • Demonstrates accountability for achieving compliance objectives, project deliverables, and regulatory commitments while effectively managing competing priorities.

  • Identifies compliance risks, evaluates options, and develops practical solutions to address complex regulatory and operational challenges.

  • Effectively coordinates multiple initiatives, manages timelines, and prioritizes activities to ensure compliance obligations and project milestones are achieved.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve compliance programs, processes, controls, and stakeholder awareness to enhance organizational effectiveness.
