Job description

At BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, we’re on a quest to ensure every kid in the province receives the best health care imaginable. As a fundraising organization, we inspire communities and people to support BC Children’s Hospital, along with its world-class research institute, mental health facility, and rehabilitation center.

Our work makes a profound difference. From helping get the boldest research ideas off the ground to supporting the most advanced equipment, together we are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in children’s health care. This is no small task—which is why we’re looking for passionate people to join our team and help propel our work forward to power the possible.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Director, Government Relations and Strategic Communications, the Strategic Partnerships Manager will work in collaboration with Hospital, Medical and Research Institute staff to understand their needs and priorities, determine where philanthropy can play a role, and develop aligned fundraising opportunities. You will write compelling and inspiring fundraising cases for support and proposals and provide guidance on donor stewardship and impact reporting. You will be both a gifted writer capable of telling captivating stories and an eagle-eyed reviewer of budgets. In addition, you will enjoy providing education to Foundation staff on new funding opportunities and possess exceptional relationship management skills.

More specifically, you will:

  • Build strong and collaborative relationships with Hospital, Medical and Research Institute staff.
  • Work with philanthropy staff to help match donor interests with approved fundraising opportunities.
  • Write compelling, customized cases for support and proposals that inspire donors through storytelling.
  • Ensure that all fundraising opportunities are approved by Hospital and Research Institute leadership prior to being presented to a donor.
  • In partnership with internal and external stakeholders, ensure donor-funded initiatives are well planned.
  • Support the development and review of funding opportunity budgets, funding commitment letters, and other key financial aspects of initiatives supported by philanthropic investments.
  • Attain subject matter expertise and mastery in a wide range of clinical and research areas.
  • Understand complicated medical terminology and be able to translate it into compelling and easy-to-understand language.
  • Collaborate with internal partners such as Donor Experience, Marketing & Communications, Gift & Estate Planning, Major & Principal Gifts, and Corporate & Community Giving to ensure the best possible experience for donors.
  • Participate in strategic planning, development and implementation for fundraising opportunities.
  • Work to integrate policies and processes to ensure effective collaboration with all key stakeholders.
  • Educate staff on fundraising opportunities.

What you’ll bring

We understand that no single candidate will perfectly meet all the qualifications outlined for this job posting. The following highlights the qualifications we consider important:

As a Strategic Partnerships Manager, you are extremely organized, a gifted storyteller, editor and skilled project manager with exceptional communication and collaboration skills. A strategic thinker with strong decision-making and negotiating ability enables you to analyze, plan, initiate and complete projects in a timely manner. You are a team player with a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with a broad range of people.

In addition, you will bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Fundraising, Journalism, Communications or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of related experience with specific experience in writing, project management, and ideally working in a complex, fast-paced hospital fundraising environment, or the equivalent combination of related skills and experience.
  • Strong interviewing skills
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing and validating budgets
  • Exceptional interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Raiser’s Edge or other database experience is an asset.
  • An affinity for our values: Think Big, Step Up, and Lead with Heart.

What you can expect

Ensuring that kids receive the best health care imaginable is no small task, therefore taking care of our team is a top priority. To help you power the possible and to support you in your health, well-being, and career growth, in additional to competitive compensation, we offer perks like a hybrid work environment (minimum of two days per week in office) and nine-day fortnight schedule, generous vacation, topnotch health and dental benefits, a health care spending account, a defined benefit pension plan, and a commitment to professional development.

The hiring range for this position is between $91,100 and $101,000. At BCCHF, we are committed to ensuring that compensation is fair and equitable. Your placement in the salary range will be determined by your experience, relevant skills, and qualifications as they relate to this role.

Please note that all BCCHF team members are required to complete a vulnerable sector criminal record check as a condition of employment.

We exist to power the possible. And that permeates every action we take. As a team, we push ourselves to: think big in how we are boldly envisioning the future; step up in how we are accountable to ourselves, each other and our shared cause; and lead with heart in how we listen and engage with others.
